The Old Globe seeks qualified applicants for a full-time Lead Wig Runner. This position reports to the Wardrobe Supervisor.

The Lead Wig Runner works in support of actors and performers in rehearsals and performance situations. Responsibilities include assisting actors in putting on wigs, facial hair, makeup, and when necessary, doing hairstyling for the productions. Job duties also include: become familiar with the script for assigned shows and attending rehearsal run-throughs; participate in load-in, and the set up and strike of dressing rooms and changing areas; create running sheets; assist with costume changes when necessary; and other work in support of the production and all backstage crew.
The Lead Wig Runner will be required to participate in training for application of wigs, hairpieces, and makeup.

They will also be trained to block and maintain wigs. They will be asked to develop skills giving and receiving clear and concise notes regarding assigned wigs, hairpieces, facial hair, makeup, and hair accessories. They will be required to work within the policies and health and safety guidelines of the theatre and Actors Equity Association.

The Lead Wig Runner may also be assigned work in the wig shop maintaining, building, and styling wigs.
Candidates will be required to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate backstage etiquette, protocols and how to channel information through appropriate personnel. Discretion, patience, understanding of artistic and complex personalities and temperaments, and calmness in high pressure situations are required attributes.

Qualified candidates should demonstrate at least 2 years of progressive work in the wigs and hair field as well as ventilating and computer skills. Cosmetology license is a plus.

Successful applicants should be self-motivated, adept at problem-solving, and attentive to details and timelines. Employees will be required to follow directions verbally and from written lists and instructions. The workweek is Tuesday-Sunday.

Employees must be available for regular work hours and show schedules including overtime, attendance to rehearsal run-throughs, technical rehearsals, previews, show calls, and strike. Must have good computer skills, be able to quickly adapt to a changing work environment, and manage competing demands. Physical requirements include moderate to heavy lifting up to 35 lbs.; sitting, kneeling, prolonged standing, and moving quickly on flat surfaces and stairs; fine motor skills; and excellent vision (color, close and distance).

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by October 1, 2021 or apply for a medical or religious exemption. Must be able to complete and clear a background screening. This is a house-staff, IATSE Local 122 Union position available Fall 2021. If the selected candidate is not a member of the Union, they will be required to join. Hourly rate: $24.72.
