GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB FUNCTION:
Virginia Stage Company seeks to fill the position of Scene Shop Foreman (SFF). The SSF is primarily responsible for assisting the Technical Director (TD) in the engineering, and implementation of all Virginia Stage Company productions and special events.

COMPENSATION:
Salary is $680.00 per week and includes the following benefits: paid time off, medical coverage with modest employee share, free downtown parking, and other coverages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the TD in maintaining a safe work environment and safe working practices during all aspects of the production builds, load-ins, and strikes
- Assist in the research and procurement of materials for show builds as directed by the TD
- Manage and supervise the scene shop staff during the build process and load-in
- Create + maintain paperwork, including but not limited to, the rigging schedule, soft goods inventory, shop
supplies, hardware lists, order forms, etc.
- Assist in the facility upkeep of the Wells Theatre, such as changing light bulbs and minor repairs of the
building as directed by the TD or Facility Manager.
- Stand in for the TD at production meetings, technical rehearsals, stewarding rentals, and any other events
as required by either the TD or Director of Production.

Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong background in scenery engineering and construction; both in steel and wood
- Demonstrated knowledge of theatrical drafting standards + symbols
- Demonstrated ability to problem solving, organizing, planning, + achieving goals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, + Dropbox
- Effective communication skills both via email and with in-person conversations
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to oversee a staff of 2-4 people
- Working knowledge of the following:
--- Theatrical rigging
--- Working shows in repertory
--- Safe operation of shop tools
- Valid Drivers License
- COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for employment

Bonus Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge in automation + motor drives
- Experience with mechanical fly systems
- Repairing + Maintaining shop tools
- Usage of Team Organizational Programs, such as Trello
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, VectorWorks, or other CAD software

Education and Experience
- Minimum Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years experience in Technical Theatre
- While not required, experience with ETC Foundation Rigging Control software is a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping, and heavy lifting may also be
required.
- Comfortable with working at height on ladders and mechanical lifts
- Ability to lift, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 50 lbs repeatedly
- 40 expected work hours per week, with hours expected to increase closer to the opening of a show.
- Night + weekend calls expected for Load-Ins, Strikes, and show needs as needed
