Siebel Center for Design is unique among design centers in the United States. Our mission: To practice, model, and teach design thinking, using human-centered design to reimagine our campus, community, and collective world.

An industrious and generative team of individuals works collaboratively at SCD to advance this mission. Nestled between the Gies College of Business, the College of Applied Health Sciences, Ikenberry Commons, and the Art + Design building - with the College of Education and the UIUC athletic complexes a short distance away - Siebel Center for Design is at a crossroads on our campus, and is a catalyst for and driver of multidisciplinary collaboration and study. Our 60,000 square foot facility provides space for programming, instruction, prototyping, events, meetings, and more, and serves as a human-centered design focal point bringing together people from all disciplines, cultures, and realities.

PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY:
To develop and implement SCDs hosted activities and services, working closely with university partners, student groups, and the campus community to coordinate and produce programs that are held in the Siebel Center for Design. This position will also oversee the SCD Concierge service, a help desk and information center focused on connecting students to resources within the Center and across campus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Coordination and Strategy
Maintains relationships with SCD collaborators, resident users, and campus partners, through regular communication, to develop programming and space use plans that provide the most benefit to SDC users and remains focused on the SCD mission.
Works collaboratively with the SCD Team in the development, coordination, and implementation of informational, curricular, co-curricular, campus, and community outreach programming and events.
Coordinates programming needs for activities scheduled in SCD, including the allocation and scheduling of resources, spaces, and access to members of the SCD Team, as requested by resident users and guests.
Program Staffing and Reporting
Responsible for the hiring, training, management, scheduling, and supervision of student staff and volunteers to support activities and services, including the SCD Concierge service and SCD-hosted events.
Provides management with reports, analyses, data, and information on the SCD programs and activities, and assists the SCD leadership team with determining a strategy for future programming and space allocation.
Other Essential Functions
Maintains the scheduling calendar and prepares all booking information for programmed events, including set up drawings, requests for set ups using University services, day-of event procedures and itineraries, and any related resource planning.
Other, related duties to further the mission of the Siebel Center for Design.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelors degree
A total of one year of work experience in administration, event management, or a related field (Note: Masters Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Successful Candidates will Have:
Bachelor's degree in administration, event management, or a related field
2 years of experience in a programming or event coordination role. 1 year of experience working in a university setting and interacting directly with students and campus groups.
Experience with Google Suite and Slack, or similar communication tools.
Knowledge of the methodologies, practices and tools of design thinking, innovation strategy and prototyping.
Experience with scheduling and booking software such as Accruent EMS, EventBooking, or a related product.

This is a full-time Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after September 23rd, 2021. Salary is commensurate with experience.
