Assistant Technical Director, University of Rhode Island Department of Theatre
This is a part time, 4 month (September December) guest artist position in the URI Theatre Dept.

Position pays $20 an hour for 20 hours a week (part time): not to exceed 287 hours (or $5738) for the 4 month contract. Rehire is anticipated for the Spring Semester (January to April).

Position Summary:+#8232;The Assistant Technical Director acts as an assistant to the Technical Director, assists in the completion of the scenery, lights, and other technical areas for stage productions and assisting the Technical director in managing the scene shop and student workers.

COVID Safety protocols are enforced by the University and the department. Masks are required at all times within the work space, as well as maintaining the current social distancing measurement of 3 feet. Unvaccinated members will need to be tested twice weekly and provide results to supervisor.

The main requirements and responsibilities for the position are:
-Experience in performing arts (technical theater) carpentry, and event production. A high school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
-Thorough knowledge of the technical aspects and operational details of scenic, light, sound, rigging systems, etc.
-Must have significant carpentry skills and expertise in the use of power tools and woodworking machinery.
-Must be able to read design drawings and execute construction of scenery accurately.
-Must be able to work without direct supervision and be able to adapt to changing work situations.
-Assist the Technical Director in training students in the proper use of tools and equipment, construction techniques, and specialized theatre techniques, and ensure that student workers engage in safe working practices with tools, supplies, and equipment:promoting safety through example.
-The candidate must also be able to work with students of differing experience levels and personality types in a positive, friendly manner. Assign tasks to students according to their knowledge and experience and assure quality control by checking work done by student workers against specifications from the construction plans.
-Assist in tracking attendance of student workers and Confirm completion of bi-weekly timesheets for student workers.
-Inform the Technical Director of tool, supply, and material needs.
-Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends.
-The ability and willingness to lift and carry 50lbs. is required.
-Possess good organizational and time management skills.
