Overview of Theatre:
Producing plays since 1929, the Assistance League+reg; of Los Angeles Theatre for Children is the oldest childrens theatre in Southern California. The Leagues award-winning Nine OClock Players perform plays chosen from classic childrens literature with dancing, singing and special effects.

Overview of Position:
The Technical Director / House Manager (TD/HM) exercises independent judgement in performing a wide variety of technical and professional duties. Due to the ever-changing operating hours of theater, the TD/HM works varying days and hours based on theatre needs. The TD/HM has a working knowledge/experience with techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance and music productions and presentations including stage, set, sound and lighting; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; and appropriate safety procedures. The TD/HM is responsible for the smooth operation of the theatre and oversees the safety and well-being of patrons while at the theatre. Supervises strike to ensure orderly and safe tear-down, demolition, and/or storage of scenic, lighting, sound and property elements.

This position is available now as we prepare to reopen our historic theater to the public! The ideal candidate has a love of theater, related theater and technical experience, and is able to work flexible hours. Work includes two theatre productions per year and as needed for additional theatre rentals throughout the year including evenings and weekends.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the production, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, video, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities

Determines the production needs, such as lighting, sound, video, and staging for rehearsals and performances. Develops and implements a plan for load-in, strike and load-out

Maintains and operates lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music and other productions and projects

Provides technical support, guidance and supervision to theatre hires, including production managers, lighting and sound designers for rehearsals, performances and events

Ability to perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on theatre and equipment

Ensures the technical operation of the theatre is always safe and complies with current legislation and industry standards; provides technical support to visiting companies, hires and artists

Assists in post-production strike and cleanup of facility, materials and equipment

Complies with all current COVID-19 guidelines per the CDC/LA County Dept of Public Health

Minimum 3 years of related work experience; background in theatre/the arts preferred

Working knowledge of construction and set design, lighting design, stage rigging, audio and sound reinforcement, stage management and/or production management

Working knowledge and clear understanding of professional standards of stage safety

Strong communication skills

Attention to detail and organizational/project management skills

Able to work flexible schedule throughout the year, including evenings and weekends

Salary is commensurate with experience
