The Department of Theatre, Film, and Digital Production seeks a sound designer/composer for its in-person production of Men on Boats by Jaclyn Backhaus to serve as lecturer for TFDP 172 (Design in Production) in the 2022 Winter quarter (January 3 March 11). At the end of the quarter, the sound designer will assign grades to each student in the class based on their work throughout rehearsal and performances. Technical rehearsals begin February 4, 2022, and the production runs from February 10-19, 2022. The sound designer/composer will create the aural landscape of the production both creatively and technically using the power of sound as part of the storytelling process to enhance the audiences emotional connection to the performance. They will design, compose, select, and facilitate the creation of pre-recorded music and sound effects, and set the sound cues for the production. Additionally, they will be responsible for the design of the audio systems needed to reproduce and reinforce the design in the theatre. In collaboration with the director and the other members of the production team, the sound designer/composer is responsible for developing a viable production concept, integrating the design into the rehearsal process, adapting the design as the production evolves in rehearsal, and finalizing the design during technical rehearsals. The position is contingent upon funding.

Required Qualifications: MA, MFA, Ph.D. or equivalent experience (3 years professional and/or university instructing experience). A record of professional and/or university experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience at the university level is desired.

Salary: Approximately $6326/course.
