TheatreSquared seeks a Production Stage Manager to help actively create a culture of respect, collaboration, balance and empathy in a diverse, creative workforce. This key staff member will help the company to answer the question, How can a theatre be an agent of social change and foster a community that is fundamentally inclusive and equitable?

The Production Stage Manager is a full-time, key member of TheatreSquareds staff, and a vital member of the Stage Management and Production Team. This position reports to the Director of Production and the Associate General Manager. This staff member will go above and beyond to help create a safe and supported environment for the creation of exceptional theatre, and to ensure a memorable arts experience for community members visiting TheatreSquared. In addition to an understanding of stage
management, the ideal candidate will also bring an upbeat and outgoing attitude, while also displaying a strong sense of leadership and a team player ethic.

- Responsible for providing a clean, efficient and friendly environment geared towards the successful mounting of each T2 production.
- Responsible for providing a level-headed and calm demeanor in possible emergency
situations when others may look to you as a source of comfort or clarity.
- Be creative in offering solutions and troubleshooting to offer a happy medium for the
success for all parties.
- Communicate with Director of Production in a timely manner if you witness behavior that may need to be addressed by a supervisor.
- Responsible for returning rehearsal room to either a neutral state at the end of each
rehearsal day or to zero in between rehearsal periods. Includes making sure chairs and
tables are neatly stacked, tape is pulled, consumables are either thrown away or
properly stored.
- Preparedness and general knowledge in covering of additional duties if another member of the SM team is unavailable
- Be available to collaborate with other departments including: paint, scenic, props,
costumes, sound, lighting and marketing.
- Assist as needed in other capacities for special events, including Season Kickoff, Gala or other company events

- Work with Director of Production on calendar planning and dates
- Create/Maintain Show Calendar as pertains to individual shows
- Coordinate with DoP to create tech week schedules for each show
- Follows SPT/AEA work rules and hours; plans and publishes schedule overviews
for rehearsals, technical rehearsals and performances, and provides daily
guidance and feedback to stage management staff in preparation and distribution
of daily rehearsal calls.

- Work with Director of Production to create and maintain all departmental documentation including all standardized templates, forms and paperwork. Ensure that they are updated prior to each season to incorporate new information and/or changes in policy, practice, or staffing.
- With the Director of Production and AGM, participate in the hiring process of all Stage
management team members. This pertains to season stage management as well as
special event stage managers that may not be full time stage management staff.
- Coordinate with Artistic Director in understudy needs as pertains to individual
- Communicate details regarding schedule to pertinent departments as they relate to
individual productions
- Coordinate with Director of Production and other department managers on staffing
needs for individual shows.
- Help to develop talented and dedicated run crew, wardrobe crew and other deck
personnel. Provides timely feedback about these staff to their supervisors to
ensure a great backstage staff team.
- As the Stage Management department head, attends production meetings, production
department head meetings, post mortems, full staff meetings and other trainings as
- Serves as Stage Manager for productions as assigned per season
- Supervises the reporting of work time for Actors and personnel on a show and
reports to accounting the veracity of the hours reported.
- Maintains the artistic vision for all assigned shows
- Maintains a safe working environment in rehearsal and onstage that conforms to
the theatres safety program.
- Supervises the creation, maintenance and accuracy of each production prompt
script for management and archive purposes.
- Will operate lighting board and sound computer, as determined by individual
production needs
- Will supervise and schedule the put in of any new, replacement or understudy
cast members or crew.
- Work with the Artistic Producer to help identify and potentially deal with any
professional issues within the cast and/or director of a production.
- Oversee and staff Stage Management Team
- Assign duties to all Stage Managers, Assistant Stage Managers and Stage
Management Associates, Production Assistants and Interns
- Set up Mid and End Season Check Ins with Stage Management Team. To be
conducted alongside Director of Production
- Coordinate with Education Department on hours for Stage Management Intern. Creates an environment that encourages the mentoring of interns by all of the AEA stage
management staff.
- Maintains the stage management production office as organized and up-to-date centers of communication and is responsible for adequately supplying the stage management office with the supplies necessary to the effective execution of responsibilities (tape, pencils, etc.).
- Works with Director of Production and Technical Director for pre-season shared
purchases, including tape orders and re-stocking needs
- Plans and oversees department budget and tracks department expenses.
- Helps supervise the organization and cleanliness of backstage areas, including green
rooms and kitchen spaces.
- Carry out other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by direct supervisor or management.

Candidates should have a working knowledge of AEA standards, particularly SPT. Applicants must display strong leadership skills. Candidates should also have a minimum of 2 years of stage management experience, and experience leading teams of varying sizes.

Compensation is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
