The Lead Carpenter reports to the Prop supervisor as part of a four-person staff, working to support both Syracuse Stage and Syracuse University Department of Drama production seasons. The Lead Prop Carpenter position is ideal for those with an interest and background in artisan carpentry work and supervising the fabrication of props, as time is split between the two areas. The Lead Prop Carpenter reports to and works closely with the Prop Supervisor to advise and assist other staff on projects, keep workflow moving, plan builds, participates in maintaining daily show communication and paperwork, and carry out individual specialized projects.

Ideal Candidate Attributes: Organization, flexibility, a positive attitude and verbal/written communication skills are necessary for working alongside both professionals and students. Highly motivated, detail-oriented candidates with knowledge of prop management and construction will be strong applicants. Strong consideration given to quick learners with related skills and experience, with a preference for candidates with direct theatre experience.
Ideal Candidate Skills: Creating and reading construction drawings, interpreting and building from designer drawings, time-management, shopping, prop crafts, furniture carpentry and repair, carving, metal work.

Position Dates:
Position is full-time, seasonal, non-exempt salary with guarantee of 40 hours and includes a generous benefit package. Position start date is targeted at mid-October but is negotiable and runs through the end of May 2021. Annual contract renewal is possible in subsequent seasons. Some overtime will be required.

Physical Demands + Working Conditions:
Work requires routine physical exertion including working at heights, lifting 50 pounds, execution of tasks using small and large motor skills, and repetitive movements of hands and arms for long periods. The use of safety equipment and/or specific precautions is required, under supervision and with instruction.
