Costume Shop Manager Job Posting

Merrimack Repertory Theatre, a LORT D regional theatre located in Lowell, MA, is seeking a Costume Shop Manager for the 2020-2021 season. The Costume Shop Manager works closely with the Costume Designer, along with the rest of the Artistic Department leadership (Production Manager, Producer and Artistic Director). S/he/they is responsible for the management and implementation of all costumes as designed, or requested by the Director through Stage Management, of a seven-show theatre season, while staying within budget and on schedule. This includes generating required paperwork and maintaining the organization of the Costume Shop and Costume Storage.

Duties and Expectations:

Production:

+middot; Procure, construct, or provide all costumes, and costume props for each production, including making arrangements for any borrowed or rented items.

+middot; Provide rehearsal replacement costumes as required for each rehearsal period.

+middot; Meet deadlines as outlined by the production schedule.

+middot; Respond promptly to daily rehearsal reports and implement any changes that come out of rehearsal and preview process.

+middot; Attend all production meetings, company meetings, technical rehearsals and technical rehearsal production meetings.

+middot; Keep accurate and up to date paperwork on all productions.

+middot; Operate within provided budgets to execute the needs of the show, promptly inform the Production Manager of potential delays in schedule or budgetary overages.

+middot; Oversee the schedule of the Wardrobe Crew Member, and ensure that they are provided the needed paperwork and materials to maintain all costumes through the run of each show.

+middot; Hire and manage all related labor needed to accomplish these tasks, as well as the scheduling and management of all shop volunteers or educational interns.

+middot; Accurately and promptly process all receipts using MRTs Budget tracking and reconciliation practices.

+middot; Manage the running of fittings, load-ins and strikes for each show.

+middot; As needed assist the designer through online sourcing, as well as retrieving or returning local retail purchases.

Management of Equipment and Spaces:

+middot; Maintain and curate MRTs inventory of costume shop stock and supplies, including upkeep of costume stock and equipment inventory. This includes organizing of the space, and disposing of items as needed.

+middot; Maintain an accurate and up to date digital inventory of items to share with designers.

+middot; Coordinate any rentals from MRT to other organizations, keep accurate records of items on loan, and reconcile returns.

+middot; Maintain all MRT tools and equipment not used exclusively by other departments, reporting to supervisor any facility or actor needs that are outside of regular costume related duties.

Community and Interdepartmental:

+middot; Foster and maintain relationships with vendors, other costume departments, schools, and community partners throughout the region.

+middot; Serve as needed and appropriate as a key holder/ staff representative for unexpected needs or emergencies. Provide assistance as needed to LMA staff or artists, vendors, emergency services, or MRT patrons. Report unusual events, or uncooperative individuals to supervisor, Production Manager or Senior Staff representative.

+middot; Provide support to Education, Special Events, Company Management and any other departments projects as needed.

+middot; Maintain and help to enforce MRT best practices regarding safety, cleanliness, and professionalism.

Other duties as assigned by Production Manager.

Above all else, MRT is seeking an individual who is willing to embrace Merrimack Repertory Theatres expectation of being a valuable team player, as well as those who are willing to go above and beyond to help achieve and maintain artistic expectations. Details:

Job Requirements:

+middot; 3+ years experience in costume construction, or related field.

+middot; Ability to review and interpret Costume Renderings and execute best industry practices in their creation.

+middot; Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability for creative problem solving.

+middot; Ability to use a variety of sewing and serging machines, both industrial and domestic.

+middot; Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.

+middot; Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.

+middot; Current drivers license.

+middot; Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for 2 hours, and operate various powered and non-powered tools.

This position requires regular nights and weekends.
