The Music Center is currently in search of, Head Audio for the Ahmanson Theater.
Reporting to the Music Center Director of Production, Center Theatre Group Director of Production, the Head Audio position will oversee the Audio Department of the Ahmanson Theatre within the context of the Collective Bargaining Agreements between IATSE Local 33. The Head Audio is accountable for the implementation, operation, and maintenance of the audio system as well as leading crew members in load-ins, technical rehearsals, run crew, and load-outs of all productions. Crew sizes range from zero to 6 or more. In a typical year between 6 and 9 shows play at the Ahmanson, most of them being national touring productions of Broadway shows with a few self-produced productions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and lead the Audio crew in the installation of the temporary audio systems necessary for productions mounted at the Ahmanson Theatre by working collaboratively with the design and management teams.
Represent Center Theatre Group (CTG) and the Music Center (TMC) to Designers, visiting crews, and management by creating a cordial, cooperative, and welcoming atmosphere. Model and support the mission and values of CTG and TMC.
Request crew from the Local 33 Hiring Hall after consulting with Production Management about crew sizes.
Fill out timesheets for the Audio crew and submit on a weekly basis.
Act as Production Audio Head and/or Mixer when requested to do so by TMC or CTG.
In conjunction with Production Management, coordinate with rental companies to establish estimates, gear needs, etc. Track rental inventories and facilitate returns.
Communicate with incoming productions to answer their technical questions and facilitate their needs. When requested, participate in advance walk-throughs and surveys.
Work with the production staff of incoming shows to install, run, maintain and load-out productions. Advise the touring production staff of the most efficient ways to achieve their goals.
Advise Management of ideal crew calls, schedule and order of the work. Manage the size of the crews and schedule the work days efficiently and in the companys best interests.
Alert Management of any safety, personnel, or technical issues which arise at any time.
Maintain a safe working environment and ensure that the Audio crew is following all safety rules and regulations.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain and upgrade the theaters audio equipment and keep inventories up to date. Advise Management on new purchases and necessary expenditures.
Request qualified assistants from the Local 33 Hiring Hall at managements discretion.
Communicate with management via email or telephone in a timely manner.
If necessary, serve as union steward for the Ahmanson Theater.
Other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and essential skills
a. Extensive knowledge of audio reinforcement and playback systems, the ability to layout and implement a production audio system and experience with permanent facility audio systems is required.
b. Experience in mixing live audio for the theatre, including both straight plays and musicals. Familiarity with both Analog and Digital consoles.
c. Clear communicator, both written and verbal.
d. The ability to read theatrical design and technical drawings.
e. Demonstrated experience with wireless audio systems.
f. The ability to work collaboratively with a team and work with a variety of personalities.
g. Working knowledge and comfort with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel. Comfort with communicating via e-mail and phone.
h. Ability to multi-task and work with deadlines.
i. Ability to remain calm and productive in stressful situations demonstrating good people skills and a sense of humor.
j. Strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Minimum requirements: Essential functions and abilities
a. The ability to sustain long working days (16 hours), multiple days in a row.
b. The ability to work a very flexible schedule with extreme hours at times.
Education, Experience and Licensing
a. Previous experience of two years or more as a Head or Assistant Head Audio on theatrical productions of a comparable size.
