ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Opera Saratoga, formerly Lake George Opera, began with a production of Die Fledermaus at the Diamond Point Theatre on July 5, 1962, playing to an audience of 230. The Company now calls Saratoga Springs, New York home and performs for more than 25,000 people annually during the Summer Festival, as well as through community engagement programs year-round. The 2020 Summer Festival under the leadership of Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson, will feature 3 different productions: The Pirates of Penzance, Sky on Swings, Madama Butterfly; as well as a wide variety of concerts at diverse venues unique to the region.
THE POSITION
The Wardrobe Supervisor is contracted as a full time resident position for a period leading into, during, and after the Summer Festival. For the 2020 Season, the Costume Shop Supervisor will be required to be in residence from May 21st to July 9th. Outside of the resident period, he/she completes task on a part-time, as needed basis remotely.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
PRE-PRODUCTION
Speak with Designers for production(s) for which costumes are being designed specifically for Opera Saratoga
Take part in the budget process with Designers and Production Manager for all productions.
Coordinate with outside costume rental shops.
If costumes are being built, work with the Designers(s) and shop supplying the costumes to ensure all costume are built in accordance with the needs
of Opera Saratoga +#8232;
Work with General Director, Managing Director, and Production Manager regarding staff needs for the season. +#8232;
Arrange for the costumes to be transported to Opera Saratoga prior to fittings beginning. +#8232;
PRODUCTION - IN RESIDENCE IN SARATOGA SPRINGS FOR TWO MONTHS (May 21st to July 9th) +#8232;
Set up costume shop and brief personnel as to the process +#8232;
Go to production meetings and studio runs, interfacing with Designers, Directors and Stage Management problem solving.
Function as costume coordinator for production for which the costumes are rented.
Schedule fittings with Stage Management +#8232;
Once fit, oversee and perform alterations as needed +#8232;
Build limited costumes and pieces as dictated by season needs +#8232;
Shop for fabric, costumes or accessories as needed.
Work with the Production Manager to plan and facilitate set up of all dressing rooms.
Work with Stage Management to provide information regarding Costume Plots and other paper work. +#8232;
In coordination with Stage Management and the Production Manager, organize and supervise the wardrobe run crew.
Ensure that all costumes are properly laundered and maintained during the rehearsal and performance process.
Work through Dress Rehearsal process making any changes requested by the Director and/or Designers, creating a cohesive look. +#8232;
Keep track of all costs, receipts and charges, staying within the budget and giving Production Manager a complete breakdown. +#8232;
Ensure that all pulled, rented or built costumes are cleaned and retuned in proper condition at the end of the season.
Take part in season strike and clean up of the costume area including dressing rooms.
Once in residence, update all performer measurements and other wardrobe information (including allergies) as necessary, as well as provide this
information to the Costume Designer.

QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED SKILLS
The Wardrobe Supervisor will bring a strong appreciation of Opera Saratogas mission and a desire to both positively impact the organizations long-term success and enhance the quality of productions presented by the company. He/she must have the following skills and experience:
2+ years of experience as a Wardrobe/Costume Shop Supervisor, working in professional opera and/or theater;
Computer proficient;
Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking to overcome challenges;
Ability to create and monitor budgets
Well-developed communication skills;
Maturity and understanding of the artistic process and excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and diplomacy skills;
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment;
Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail;
Drivers License required

COMPENSATION, TRAVEL AND HOUSING

Competitive compensation based on experience. Travel stipend, and housing during the Summer Residency period is provided.
