Stitcher
Flat Rock Playhouse, The State Theatre of North Carolina, seeks a Stitcher, to join its seasonal production staff. Employment period would begin May 4th, 2020 and go through November 15th, 2020.

Flat Rock Playhouse is a 500 seat Equity Union theatre located about half an hour South of Asheville, NC. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season including Broadway musicals, produced musical reviews, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouses dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series, a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program, year-round classes and workshops for students from kindergarten through adults.

The Sitcher reports to the Assistant Costume Shop Manager to construct, alter and maintain all of the costumes for the Leiman Mainstage. The Stitcher reports directly to the Assistant Costume Shop Manager and Costume Shop Manager staff of: Assistant Costume Shop Manager, Costume Shop Manager, Wardrobe Supervisor, Stitcher/First Hand, Interns, Apprentices, Students, and Volunteers.

Candidates must present expert skills in sewing for garment construction and alteration with an eye for detail and quality finishings. Candidates should be confident cutting basic patterns. Candidates should also have the ability to instruct students in basic hand sewing, ironing, and organizational tasks.

Salary is competitive and based on skills and experience. Qualified candidates should expect $10-$12/hr. Average work week is 40 hours. Overtime is time and a half after 40 hrs. The work environment is positive, challenging, and holds a high artistic integrity.

The ideal candidate will possess:

A 4 year degree in Costume technology or the equivalent.

A minimum of 3 years experience as stitcher or first hand for a regional theatre or other equivalent work experience.

Experience supervising students is a plus

Ability to work independently

Self Disciplined ability to maintain equipment and work area

A positive attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work well under pressure is extremely important.

A team player who is serious about his or her role on a production team, but also knows how to have fun.
