Assistant Costume Shop Manager
Flat Rock Playhouse, The State Theatre of North Carolina, seeks an Assistant Costume Shop Manager to join its seasonal production staff. Employment period would begin February 17th, 2020, flexable, and go through November 29th, 2020.

Flat Rock Playhouse is a 500 seat Equity Union theatre located about half an hour South of Asheville, NC. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season including Broadway musicals, produced musical reviews, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouses dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series, a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program, year-round classes and workshops for students from kindergarten through adults.

The Asst. Costume Shop Manager works with the Costume Shop Manager/Costume Designer to coordinate, plan, build and maintain all of the costumes for the Leiman Mainstage. The Asst. Costume Shop Manager reports directly to the Costume Shop Manager, Costume Designers and works with a staff of: Head Wardrobe, Stitcher/First Hand (2), Interns, Apprentices, Students, and Volunteers.

Candidates should exhibit expert skill in costume construction, draping, pattern making, and basic millinery. Candidate should be confident running the daily operations of a regional theatre costume shop as well as instructing students in basic sewing and organizational tasks. The right candidate may also be given some design and assistant design opportunities. All candidates should have experience in an education setting as well as a professional setting.

Salary is competitive and based on skills and experience. Qualified candidates can expect $12-$14/ hr. Short term housing may be available for a transition period. The work environment is positive, challenging, and holds a high artistic integrity.

The ideal candidate will possess:
A degree in technical theatre or the equivalent.

A minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership or management position for a regional theatre or educational theatre or equivalent work experience.

Experience in teaching sewing or other arts, not necessarily in a traditional classroom setting.

A positive attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work well under pressure is extremely important.
A team player who is serious about his or her role on a production team, but also knows how to have fun.
