Production Manager-Academic Specialist

Indiana Universitys Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance seeks a highly organized, energetic Production Manager with excellent communication and problem-solving skills for a full-time 12-month position. The PM manages the departments production season and serves as the mentor to student stage managers; including teaching one formal course each academic year.

The position requires day-to-day operational leadership skills, exceptional attention to detail, interpersonal self-confidence, and the ability to remain effective, encouraging and positive during busy periods. We are seeking a colleague to recruit, oversee, train, and mentor student stage managers while serving as an efficient liaison between all areas of production.

The successful applicant must either possess an MFA in theatre or equivalent professional experience in production and/or stage management. Experience in a broad range of live-performance genres is desirable. Membership in AEA is a plus but not required. Adherence to standard AEA policies and protocols expected.

The department produces theatre, musical theatre, contemporary dance and new plays throughout the academic year; and also produces a professional summer theatre season. Find more information about the position description, Department, and Indiana University at www.Theatre.Indiana.edu

Position Duties include:

Production Manage all department mainstage productions: coordinate rehearsals and technical schedules for annual season; schedule and run design conferences and production meetings.

Serve as positive and pro-active liaison between various areas such as director, student stage manager, artistic team and production areas. Able to help cultivate a production environment of trust and upholding high standards of communication that models best practices in professionalism. Confidence and skill in communicating daily with faculty, staff, students and guest artists.

Manage departmental facilities, distribute weekly calendars for theatres and classroom scheduling; monitor classrooms for proper inventory of chairs and rehearsal furniture; hiring piano tuners as needed, report and follow up on physical plant issues with Physical Plant and Building Services; set up departmental special events; supervise student use of facilities for independent projects; manage key inventory; first responder for emergencies.

Teach one undergraduate course in stage management each year. This could be a full semester course, or two eight-week courses taught consecutively. Curriculum is in the purview of the faculty and the Chair.

Mentor student stage managers; observing rehearsals; review daily performance and rehearsal reports and providing feedback; assign student stage management staff for all productions; act as liaison for department sponsored internships in stage management. Oversight of 10/12 rehearsals with effective hands-on mentorship of stage managers to keep technical rehearsal running effectively and within schedule.

Uphold, enforce as needed and help develop rehearsal, audition and backstage policies and protocols ensuring safety and best practices.
