Fern Street Circus is currently seeking short-term independent contractors to work as set up/run/strike crew for its upcoming 2019 Neighborhood Tour.

The tour features free, public performances at various park locations throughout City Heights (San Diego, CA). Ring crew is needed for set up, tech rehearsals, and tour dates on September 28, October 1-6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27, 2019. Hours vary.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Ring crew will be instrumental in show production and ensure the safety and well-being of performers and fellow crew members. Crew will be involved in all aspects of the show related to equipment, sets, props, winches, and rigging. No previous knowledge necessary but must be willing to learn.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Assemble and disassemble all equipment associated with, but not limited to, the Ring Crew Department, eg. highwire, trapeze, scaffolding towers, etc.
Move props and scenery during performances and rehearsals.
Operate rigging system and related equipment for performances, artist training, and
maintenance, at heights directed by the Chief Technician and Artistic, Company, and
Technical Management.
Develop a thorough knowledge of all rigging equipment specific to the production in order to operate and maintain mechanized and manual rigging equipment safely.
Maintain a safe working environment at all times by complying with all safety and security procedures related to the show.
Assist in loading and unloading equipment at all sites.
Perform all other job-related duties as requested.

REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness and ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs.
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
Ability to read, comprehend, and write basic instructions, short correspondences, and memos online.
Professional appearance and demeanor.
Availability to work all rehearsals and performances.
Ability to climb, work, and perform repairs at heights up to 12' using scaffolding, ladder, and safety equipment.
Ability to stand for long periods of time, squat, run and climb.
Positive, team-player attitude.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Basic understanding of theatrical terms and directions.
Basic knowledge of hand tools and their use.
Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Previous experience with children (ages 8-17)
