As a hands-on supervisor in an educational environment, this position plays an integral role in the design and facilitation of set construction, lighting, and sound for departmental theatre productions as well as other performing arts events and productions.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field
Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of related professional experience
Master's degree in a related field
Required Experience:

A broad understanding of all aspects of technical theatre
Knowledge of common industry-specific software
Thorough knowledge of lighting equipment: venue specific lighting systems, wiring, dimmers, electrics, analog and digital patching, consoles, lighting instruments and color (design and implementation, management)

Proficiency with PC and Mac computers

Thorough knowledge of sound equipment: venue-specific sound systems, wired and wireless mic systems, digital recording equipment, digital switching and mixing systems and support of commonly used sound installations for campus events.

Ability to create scenic designs and implement all phases of their construction.
Experience overseeing venue and production calendars and schedules
Ability to work independently and to manage, train and motivate others.
Required Knowledge, Skills + Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills, use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Working knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities on sound and lighting equipment.
Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
Ability to train and manage student employees and volunteers.
Understanding of academic theatre and a strong ability to collaborate.
Ability to present a positive public image and maintain a positive attitude in fast-paced, stressful environments.
Independent worker and self-starter.

Work closely with the Director of Theatre to implement season planning
Honestly and positively reflect Midland Performing Arts to prospective students.
Lead the design process for Midland's five show theatre season, including set, prop, lighting, sound and projection design. This includes mentoring student designers throughout the creative process.
Lead student technicians to implement theatrical designs, including overseeing all load-ins and strikes. Serving as the lead carpenter, master electrician and sound supervisor for Midland's theatre season.
Supervise the day-to-day operations of Midland's scene shop and Kimmel Theatre, including purchasing and stocking inventory, overseeing a staff of work study students, and providing support to performing arts classes.
Work closely with student designers and technicians of all skill levels in an educational environment. This includes supervising student workers and volunteers.
Maintain a safe work environment at all times. Address safety hazards with appropriate personnel.
Monitor the condition of equipment in all performance venues; arrange for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; perform preventive maintenance on equipment; and identify new technologies and technical developments to improve performance venues.
Provide technical elements for other Performing Arts and campus events.
Maintain budget for technical arts department and stay within a limited budget.
Participate in short and long term planning with regards to inventory and capital purchases
Maintain schedule for university performance venues
