The Assistant Props Master, CoPA is responsible for supporting the Props Master, Production Management + Technical Direction team, + the College of Performing Arts Deans in all areas of Props design and construction as assigned throughout the College, including but not limited to Drama mainstage productions, Operas, Ensemble Concerts, experimental productions, external performance partnerships and musicals. The successful candidate will be a strong leader and collaborator who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly team-oriented environment. She/he will possess an extremely positive disposition, be nimble and adaptable, and will approach her/his work with a sense of humor and positivity. She/he will take initiative and demonstrate great empathy and honesty as a leader and within her/his work with colleagues across CoPA and the university.

The Assistant Props Master, CoPA will work closely with designers, production management + technical direction to execute the properties design for shows. S/he reports directly to the Props Master, CoPA. This position is a 40-week, hourly position during the academic year (late-August through late-May); the position has access to the 12-month, full-time benefits package as offered by The New School.

Responsibilities include:
- Work closely under the direction of the Props Master with scenic designers to design, engineer and build props for CoPA productions in the School of Drama, Mannes School of Music, and School of Jazz + Contemporary Music
- Assist in the purchasing or renting of props, furniture, set dressings or consumables for CoPA productions
- Coordinate with stage management to ensure all rehearsal props are secure while show props are built or procured
- Help to facilitate the props load in + strikes for CoPA productions
- Supervise staff: part time prop artisans, painters, show crew, student workers and temporary employees throughout CoPA for prop related work
- Ability to interpret and build from sketches, photos, or video
- Maintain prop inventories and upkeep stock prop elements.
- Flexible hours as needed, based on project assignment
- Other duties as assigned

- Two plus years previous experience in theatrical properties, as artisan and props master, is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work productively, graciously and with appropriate sense of humor under strict time constraints
- Comfortable with power tools + heights
- Strong carpentry skills
- Sewing + upholstery skills
- Skilled painter
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks
