Technical Theatre Production Intern

Nashville Repertory Theatre is currently seeking collaborative self-starters to serve as Technical Theatre Production Interns for its 2018-2019 season. This position will assist the Technical Director, Head of Design, and the Properties Master/Rentals Manager in providing each production with all scenic and property needs. Applicants will participate in an active professional scene shop and work toward broadening their knowledge in scenic carpentry, painting, welding, finishing, and properties design/construction, and will be treated like a member of the full-time staff.

Theatre Production interns will be supervised by the Technical Director. Formal Intern Evaluations with the supervisor are held mid-season and at the end of the season, along with regular meetings throughout the season with the Artistic Associate in charge of the program to assure the interns professional goals are being supported by Nashville Rep.

Applicants must have a basic knowledge of theatrical construction techniques, a basic familiarity with tools, the ability to lift 50-75lbs on a regular basis, and a strong will to learn.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

Props construction and maintenance.

Assist the Properties Master in set dressing.

Prop shop and prop storage maintenance.

Scenic construction.

Scene Shop Maintenance.

Base painting.

Run crew as needed.

Participate in all load-ins and load-outs.

Participate as a full staff member in staff meetings and any activities that require staff support.

Other duties as assigned.

** Professional Technical Production Interns work an average of 20 hours a week. During load-in, load-outs, tech week, or special events additional hours may be required, while some weeks will require fewer hours and comp time can be arranged with supervisor approval. The Professional Intern contract provides a stipend of $125/week for 40 weeks (August-May). This includes two weeks off between Christmas and New Year (one week is paid) and the same paid holidays as the full-time staff. Housing is not provided.**
