REPORTS TO: Center Theatre Group Director of Production
DIRECT REPORTS; IATSE Local 706 Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists
WORK SCHEDULE: Varies, dependent on needs of Production

Oversee the Hair and Make-up Department of the Ahmanson Theatre within the context of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Center Theatre Group and IATSE Local 706.

Supervise the implementation of Hair and Make-up components necessary for productions at the Ahmanson Theatre. Ensure that industry standard practices are enforced.
Lead the Hair and Make-up crew members for load ins, technical rehearsals, run crew, and load outs of Productions.
Represent Center Theatre Group and the Music Center to visiting crews and management by creating a cordial, cooperative, and welcoming atmosphere.
Coordinate crew calls with touring production staff, CTG Director of Production, and local crew members on a daily basis and on-time.
Process the Hair and Make-up Department payroll on a weekly or daily basis.
Act as Production Head when requested to do so by MCOC or CTG.
Communicate with incoming touring or advance Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists to answer their technical questions and coordinate crew calls.
Work with the production staff of incoming productions to implement, run, maintain and load-out productions. Advise the touring production staff of the best ways to work within the C.B.A. to achieve their production goals within budget parameters.
Ensure that Hair and Make-up crew members abide by all house and rider rules of conduct.
Maintain the theatres hair and Make-up equipment and keep inventories up to date. Advise Management on new purchases and necessary expenditures.
Advise Management of ideal crew calls, schedule, order of the work, etc., on all implementations, maintenance calls, and load-outs.
Manage the size of the crew calls and schedule the work days efficiently and in the companys best interests.
Alert Management of any personnel, technical, or safety issues which arise at any time.
Maintain a safe working environment in the context of the productions design.

Recommend and evaluate practices, policies, or equipment and make recommendations regarding facility usage and purchases.
Arrange for qualified assistants at managements discretion.
Maintain theatre stock of Hair and Make-up consumables.
Be available during hours off for phone calls and/or e-mails from Management.
Other duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge and essential skills
a. Significant experience in high level professional theatrical wig styling and theatrical Make-up application.
b. Knowledge in washing, blocking, setting, and styling lace front wigs.
c. Knowledge of the difference between human hair and synthetic hair wigs.
d. Experience in styling period style wigs and hairstyles.
e. The ability to work collaboratively with a team and work with a variety of personalities.
f. Working knowledge and comfort with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel. Comfort with communicating via e-mail and phone.
g. Ability to multi-task and work with deadlines.
h. Ability to remain calm and productive in stressful situations demonstrating excellent communication skills.
i. Passion for the arts and interest in the theatre.
j. Strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Minimum requirements: Essential functions and abilities
a. Ability to carry tools + supplies, climb and move around backstage, and lift tools + equipment
b. The physical ability to stay on ones feet (standing, walking) for long days (16 hours), multiple days in a row.
c. The ability to work a very flexible schedule with extreme hours at times.
Education, Experience and Licensing
a. Membership in IATSE Local 706 (membership is required upon employment.)
b. Previous experience of two years or more as a Head or Assistant Head Hair + Makeup on theatrical productions of a comparable size.
c. Certified and licensed California Cosmetology status is preferred but not required.

All employees are required to pass a background check.

The position will receive a competitive compensation based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement between CTG and IATSE Local 706.
