Franklin Stage Company, located in the bucolic Western Catskills, 3 hours NW of NYC, is seeking a Technical Director for its 23rd Season 2019. FSC is a not-for-profit professional theater and community cultural center that produces 2 small-cast shows per season on an AEA Small Professional Theater, Tier IV contract and also presents 3 visiting artists in varying performance disciplines (music, dance, puppetry, etc.)
The Technical Director (TD) is responsible for managing day-to-day production operations, including maintaining expense budgets and schedules, communicating closely with designers and visiting artists, and supervising/mentoring 2-3 Production Interns. TD will also be required to build scenery, as well as supervise electrics hang/focus and sound set up. Strong carpentry skills, crew management, the ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders a must. Basic lighting and sound knowledge required. Experience with QLab a plus. Franklin Stage is very hands on with moderate budgets and a very small staff. Flexibility and a sense of humor are key, as well as a collaborative, can-do attitude. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, work safely and efficiently, have a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle, and exhibit professional behavior at all times.

TD duties will include:
Set up scene shop for beginning of season, and restore scene shop at the end of the season, communicating with Executive Directors regarding stock inventory and general shop and supplies needs.
Guide and supervise the overall educational experience of Production Interns through regular feedback and individual review sessions over the course of the season.
Work closely with Designers to balance budget necessities, feasibility, and design integrity, and to ensure design completion and labor efficiency.
Determine and meet scenic deadlines in conjunction with production schedule.
Manage the budget and accounting of production related expenditures including collection and coding of all receipts and invoices.
Report regularly to EADs regarding budget tracking progress and concerns.
Supervise all load-in/outs and attend all production meetings, tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and previews.
Communicate with visiting artists about their technical needs.
TD must bring their own computer to create drawings and manage projects.
TD must be proficient in Vectorworks or AutoCAD, and experienced in creating technical build drawings.
