Santa Cruz Shakespeare is currently seeking a Master Electrician for the 2019 Season. We are an outdoor theater company that operates from mid June until September.

Position Overview:
Hands-on position responsible for staffing and leading a 6-10 member team of electricians through load in, hang, focus, maintenance, and strike for all aspects of the lighting designs for a rotating repertory season; assists Production Manager in planning and executing all department activities.

-Responsible for accurate inventory of rented lighting equipment at load in and strike.

-Serves as lead console programmer for productions; trains staff or interns in programming where applicable.

-Supervises and trains electricians, interns, and volunteers (staff) in day-to-day duties; trains other staff as needed on operation of lighting equipment (for example, follow spots, atmospherics, practicals, etc.) .

-Plans circuiting and DMX networks for the venue.

-Plans and leads work calls and notes calls in consultation with Production Manager and other lighting staff.

-Creates and executes maintenance and repair work, in coordination with equipment rental/vendors.

-Works with other production dept. staff to plan and execute interdepartmental production-related lighting projects and builds.

-Works with Production Manager and other stakeholders to create changeover procedures, documentation and check lists; performs changeover duties as assigned.

-Creates or maintains necessary paperwork, instrument schedules, lighting plots, working drawings, procedural documents, etc. as assigned.

-Maintain a safe, healthy, and neat work environment for lighting crew working in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.

Education or Work Experience:
Three (3) years of professional theatrical lighting experience with an emphasis in programming ETC Eos Family Consoles; One (1) year experience supervising staff.

-Good level programming ability of ETC Eos Family lighting consoles.
-Good knowledge of industry standard conventional and automated lighting equipment.
-Good knowledge of industry standard operating procedures regarding theatrical lighting.
-Good knowledge of electrical theory and electrical safety.
-Ability to read lighting plots, typical theatrical lighting paperwork and other typical theatrical technical drawings.
-Ability to effectively lead a team of professionals with diverse backgrounds.
-Comfortable working with simultaneously rigid and dynamic schedules and procedures, necessitated by repertory operations.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Highly developed and demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Ability:
Must be able to regularly climb, crouch, crawl, and frequently lift up to 50 lbs. with occasional lifting or pulling of heavier equipment. Must be comfortable regularly working at heights of up to 25 in outdoor spaces, scaffolds, and ladders, wearing fall arrest harnesses, ascending vertical ladders/poles up to 25. Must be able to frequently squat, kneel, or crouch while maintaining position and stand and walk for up to 10 hours per day.

-Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge:
Familiarity with LED luminaires and accessories.

Special Hours Requirements:
This position requires frequent overtime, evening, and weekend work.
