Cortland Repertory Theatre, a professional summer theatre in our 48th year is accepting resumes for Scenic Designers for our 2019 summer season. We are located in upstate New York, a half hour south of Syracuse, on the edge of the Fingerlakes Region.

Our Summer Season runs from May 20 Sept 13. Shows include The Lady with all the Answers, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, Born Yesterday, Sleuth and Million Dollar Quartet plus the childrens show The House at Pooh Corner.

The theatre is an intimate (30 x 30, with 10 proscenium height) 250 seat, three-quarter round thrust stage, located on the second floor of a national historic building. There is no extensive rigging system and minimal fly space, but scenic designs are required to be very specific and detailed because of the proximity to the audience. Scenic shop is located 20 minutes from theatre and is well stocked with good equipment.

Designers are hired as Independent Contractors. Salary of $1,300 per design is offered. Travel expenses to Cortland are reimbursed up to $100. Housing is provided in single room/shared suite. We work 6 days a week; paydays are Thursdays.

NOTE: Scenic Designers are required to also be Lead Charge Artists in their designs. We also request that the designer be onsite for all of the time of the build, load in and tech.

Please submit resume with cover letter and at least three references with phone numbers and email addresses to production@cortlandrep.org. Interviews will be held either by phone or in person if convenient. NO PHONE CALLS, please.
