PROJECT MANAGER

(Reports to Director of Production)

Overview:

Design Foundry, an event design and d+eacute;cor company based in Hyattsville, MD, is looking to add to its growing management team to advance and organize scenic + d+eacute;cor elements for events. The ideal candidate has a jack of all trades background with experience in design, paint, materials and/or techniques as they relate to scenic design and construction, and a general knowledge of the installation and rigging of scenic materials. Familiarity with materials, budgets, and general organizational paperwork is required for this position.

Project Managers will work directly with event designers or an event design team to bridge the communication lines between the visual designers, production shops and warehouse.The PMs will facilitate projects ensuring efficiency, budget-adherence, accuracy, and compliance to company standards. PMs will assist the Director of Production to ensure that all projects rise to or exceed client expectations.

Job Duties

Scheduling and managing production meetings, planning the production timeline and tracking progress for large and/or complex projects.
Understanding of fabrication and rigging for larger, more complex projects.
Review shop and installation drawings to gain a full understanding of all fabricated items.
In discussions with the Director of Production, ensure that d+eacute;cor can be installed and utilized safely.
Overall management of assigned projects, from initial meetings through the dismantle.
Mediate efficient collaboration and coordination between graphic designers, event designers, and production team.
Manage timelines and coordination between departments to ensure good workflow in event planning.
Coordinate, purchase and track the material rental and purchase needs for each project, along with the event designer, or event design team.
Communicate with event designers on event related purchases for approvals and budget tracking.
Track shipping/receiving of all project related items, including purchases made by the event designers and the PMs.
Implement, control, and hold others accountable to established deadlines.
Create and maintain load lists or pull sheets, ensuring consistency of terminology, and inclusion of proper documentation of all needs/requested items, paying close attention to details that will ensure smooth on-site installation of events.
Monitor quality standards of products, implementing and enforcing quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives.
Monitor the loading process in DF warehouse, to ensure that all necessary items arrive on show site in good condition.
Occasionally, act as an on-site supervisor, when the event design team is unavailable.
Be available on-call to troubleshoot problems that arise onsite during load-in, as needed on rotation with other operations staff.
Qualifications/Experience-

5-7 years experience in one or more of the following;
Theatrical Technical Direction or Production Management
Event Production/Management
Or similar applicable experience
Training and/or work experience in scenic shops, for events or theatre.
Training/experience in event safety, including standard shop safety.
Ability to communicate clearly, in written or verbal form.
Computer competency on the PC or MAC platform. Including Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
Extremely detailed oriented, organized, and calm in stressful situations.
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
Valid Drivers License.
Vectorworks or AutoCad drafting or 3-D design experience is helpful.
Work Week

Office hours are generally 9-6 Mondaythrough Friday, but evening and weekend work will be required for installation and strike of events. Some out of town travel may also be required of the position. Workweeks vary from 40-60 hours.

Salary

is competitive and commensurate with experience. Salary will be paid bi-monthly. The position comes with health benefits, and 15 PTO days, which begin after a 90-day probationary period.
