PAID POSITION Based on Experience

The 3D Draftsperson / Assistant Technical Director is primarily responsible for drafting 3D scenic fabrication plans, advancing large format print graphics packages, and assembling Master Technical Plans for events under the guidance of an experienced Technical Director / Technical Producer. Master Technical Plans consist of event all event elements scenery, rigging, lighting, and audio/video assembled together. A 3D Draftsperson Assistant Technical Director typically has a specialty in one or more of the above listed disciplines, or a background in theatrical scenic design or 3D Design.

Responsibilities:

Initial meetings and site surveys with the client and internal and external collaborators.

Drafting of site plans, ground plans and other required layouts.

3D drafting of individual custom scenic elements for fabrication vendors/ shops.

Complete the advance planning of production elements as assigned.

Manage budgets for elements with vendors as assigned.

Prepare orders and purchasing (e.g. scenery, print graphics, etc.), under the guidance of the Technical Director.

Research special projects as assigned.

Onsite layout and verification that install of items is performed to drafted specifications.

Ensure that all work conforms to pre-established specifications in the spirit of the production glue way.

Enforce safety standards, policies and procedures and make recommendations as necessary.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Bachelors degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of live event, entertainment, theater, touring concert and/or production experience in scenic or exhibit fabrication.

Strong 3D drafting skills in Vectorworks, Rhino, or AutoCAD is required, Vectorworks experience preferred.

Functional competencies in scenic fabrication, enough knowledge of material choices to provide callouts drawing callouts (matte vs gloss, etc.)

Computer skills: Macintosh OS or Windows platform
3D Drafting via Vectorworks, AutoCAD, or Rhino.

Adobe Creative Suite primarily Illustrator for layout of vector graphics for production by print vendors.

Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work graciously in a fast paced environment. Ability to work with discretion, diplomacy and tact in tightly buttoned-up environments of finance and government. Ability to demonstrate a sense of urgency and act responsively.

Requirements:

Must be able to climb two flights of stairs regularly, and climb a ladder of 12+.

Should be able to assist in lifting materials up to 50 pounds.

Must be comfortable in an office setting as well as more rigorous on-site environments.

Must be able to excel in an open office workspace with 35+ people and sporadic variation in decibel level.

Must be able to communicate by phone with vendors and clients.

Should be equally comfortable communicating in person with everyone from interns to clients

Ideally willing to travel for periods of up to 2 weeks for onsite production.

Must be able to pass a background check.
