Position Title: Costume Shop Foreman/Draper
Department: Costume Shop

Position Summary
The Costume Shop Foreman/Draper is a full time position with full benefits responsible for work flow of the Costume Shop as well the production of patterns based on the costume renderings, sketches, research, and verbal instructions of the Costume Designer for one or more shows throughout the season. The Costume Shop Foreman/Draper is also responsible for leading a team and overseeing all necessary areas for the fit and completion of all costumes for all specified shows.

Essential Functions
Helps the Costume Shop Manager supervise the work flow of the shop during peak build seasons, tech, or other times the Manager is unavailable.
Helps Costume Shop Manager maintain a costume production quality of highest standards.
Maintains the cleanliness of the Costume Shop.
Responsible for the timely completion of all Understudy costumes
Promotes a positive and safe work environment during peak build times.
Uses the Sketch provided by the costume designer to drape or pattern the costume
Fabricates patterns, either by draping, flat patternmaking, or pattern software for specific actors
Fits or supervises the fit of all costumes to the actor
Cuts or supervises the cutting of all fabric for the costume from the pattern created
Determines yardage for fabric and trims for the costume
Corrects patterns or alters costumes as necessary
Supervises a crew by preparing and delegating work to First Hands and Stitchers
Researches the period, style and techniques necessary to complete the costume within the costume designers guidelines
Maintains the integrity of the costume design through his/her interpretation of the sketch
Assists with all Strikes throughout the season
Occasionally runs wardrobe or creates run paperwork
Promotes preventive maintenance as a strategy in maintaining costume shop tools and machinery by preforming a routine cleaning of all equipment
Takes inventory of all actors with measurements and creates a Costume Bible for each Production
Oversees and maintains costumes for Christmas in the Canyon.
Prepares Costumes and gets actors ready for parades
Helps Rental Manager inventory new rental packages and upload them to our website.
Contributes to the overall success of the Costume Shop by preforming any additional duties and responsibilities assigned

Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge in all areas of costuming including draping, stitching, drafts, millinery, and maintenance.
Demonstrated supervisory skills + techniques.
Demonstrated proficiency in flat patterning
Demonstrated proficiency in draping and the 'sculptural' using of fabric
Tailoring skills a plus
Knowledge of/and experience in a variety of costume construction techniques including tailoring, period construction techniques, and alterations.
Understanding of period shape and how to adapt it to theatrical costumes
Good working knowledge of costume history
Understanding of Basic Management/Supervisory Techniques

Skills / Abilities
Ability to operate shop equipment including industrial and domestic sewing machines, multi needle and leather sewing machines, steam irons, and cutting tools. Maintenance knowledge a plus
Proven skills in pattern making, cutting, construction, crafts, millinery, and fittings
Ability to collaborate with and/or supervise a costume team to efficiently complete assigned projects.
Ability to create and upkeep Show Run Paperwork
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent time management skills
Excellent communication skills
Ability to organize and maintain cleanliness of Costume Shop
Ability to Run short distances
Ability to lift 25 lbs
Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite
Computer patterning and grading a plus

Position Dates: Full Time with Benefits. Starts January of 2019.

Salary / Rate: $15 / hour + overtime

2019 Production shows include Disneys The Little Mermaid, Disneys When You Wish, Sound of Music, and Gentlemans Guide to Love and Murder.
