The Gerald W. Lynch Theater is a rental facility that also serves as a college venue for events. Reporting directly to the Performing Arts Technical Supervisor at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Technical Supervisor for both internal and external clients in the Gerald W. Lynch and related venues on campus.

In additional to CUNY Title Overview, the responsibilities are as follows:

- Assist the Technical Supervisor and, when needed, directly supervise IATSE crews in the Gerald W. Lynch Theater and related venues. Supervise a cadre of 60+ stage hands and technical personnel. Responsibility for the recruitment cycle of all stage hand personnel.

- Assist Technical Supervisor in day-to-day operations and technical management of the Theater. Responsibilities include administrative tasks including staffing, payroll, budget and fiscal management, human resources support for crew including on-boarding new employees.

- Assist the Technical Supervisor in execution of overall annual program of events including rentals: booking, scheduling and rental contracts. Manage activities for 250+ active days in the theater annually, including student productions if necessary. Work with clients representatives to understand their goals and facilitate successful productions. Serve as client contact in advance of and during events. Serve as the buffer between crew and client, ensuring customer service as well as enforcement of house/crew rules. Work closely with Gerald W. Lynch Theater, other college staff, patrons, visitors, students, faculty, renters and community members.

- Draft and prepare stage information for client and crew.

- Work closely with General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Stage Supervisors and FOH staff when needed.

- Assist in building internal and external relationships with the Theater. Work with Facilities, Public Safety, Custodial and Labor staff when needed.

- Assist in overseeing management to ensure facilities are well-maintained and safe for the general public and its users.

- Manage day to day maintenance of facility and equipment. Supervise operation of all technical systems and equipment owned or non-owned.

- Assist the Technical Supervisor and when necessary oversee the safety practices for all crew activities.

- Occasionally serve as a stage manager for small events.

- Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Technical Supervisor.

- Evening and weekend hours are required.


Bachelor's Degree required.


- PDF examples of drafting work and how they have used excel spreadsheets required.
- Three years of related experience; management experience in technical production, events management, venue management, budgeting, and personnel management preferred.
- Experience in some and familiarity in all of the following: lighting, sound, and theatrical computer systems, rigging, theatre safety, and building maintenance.
- Strong customer service skills especially when working with clients with varying levels of experience and attention to detail are essential.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills and ability to foster a cooperative work environment, make decisions, resolve problems, and work effectively with staff and constituents.
- Proven proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Google Drive as well as the use of Windows operating system computers.
- Proven excellence in management of theatrical and/or special events. This can include stage or production management, technical direction or other organizational middle management positions.
- Supervisory experience managing a team is a plus.
- Ability to read and generate theatrical drawings.
- Proven capacity for completing self-directed projects.
- Proven capacity for self-directed learning.
- Capable of being very organized and helping to organize others.
- Work on the Weekends, Evenings and Holidays will be required.

Supports projects, initiatives, and activities that impact an academic or administrative department.

- Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.

- Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

- Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

- Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

- Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

- Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

- May supervise office staff and student workers.

- Performs related duties as assigned.
