Ampa Events, an event production company and scene shop, seeks candidates with design and artistic skills to develop and implement unique events that creatively bring value to a client through artistically telling their story, supporting a worthy cause or advancing a brand.

The primary responsibility for this position is to design unique events to meet client needs and goals. Candidate must have the ability to illustrate unique designs in rendering, drawing, and other media to capture a client's interest and secure a signed contract. Once the design phase is completed, the event designer will then take on a production manager role for the execution of events, including preproduction workups and fabrication as needed.

Demonstrated creative and artistic skills are required for this position. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in theatre, events, conference design or other related industries. Consideration will be given to candidates that have proven design skills and successful client relation skills but may not have the desired 5-10 years experience. A successful candidate will have a diverse skill set that is applicable to the event and live production industry. Theatrical skills including, carpentry, lighting, AV, rigging, and great people skills will position the candidate for success in this role. Candidates will need to wear multiple hats and change gears smoothly as operations require. Weekend and evening availability is required to meet client event needs. Some travel is required per event schedule.

Job responsibilities include:


1. Design unique events to meet client needs and goals.
2. Develop creative vision for client needs, from concept to execution, working within budget and venue constraints.
3. Ability to illustrate unique design suggestions in rendering, drawing, and other media to capture the clients interest and secure new business opportunities.
4. Strong knowledge of design trends and styles.

New Business Development

1. Develop new business opportunities with incredible designs that uniquely fit client goals with a total solution approach.
2. Creatively bring value to a client through artistically telling their story, supporting a worthy cause, or advancing a brand.
3. Communicate with clients to understand event needs and proactively suggest budget friendly design solutions.
4. Draft proposals and contracts using a sales database system that includes a point and click inventory database.
5. Pursue networking opportunities develop and maintain professional contacts in the event industry by participating and attending industry association events.

Client Relations

1. Proactively manage client relationships to encourage and increase repeat business.
2. Oversee the management of event expenses to ensure that profit margins are maintained throughout the event design and installation process.
3. Manage client relations to meet contract deadlines and facilitate efficient project execution.
4. Be an Ampa brand ambassador at all times when working events.

Production Management - Event Installation

1. Maintain effective communication with the installation team to ensure smooth development and installation of set designs.
2. Oversee and participate in the technical design, engineering, drafting, and construction of all scenery.
3. Create and maintain technical drawings.
4. Build props and scenery as part of the scene shop team.
5. Conduct site inspections and meet with clients as needed.
6. Manage the installation of client events as needed. Evening and weekend availability is required.
7. Assume production manager role as needed on high profile client events and assume client liaison role when working events.
8. Maintain irregular and extended working hours; able to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools.
9. Safely drive box trucks and pull utility trailers as needed for event installations.

Other duties as assigned:: assist as needed in all aspects of Ampa business, including but not limited to: administrative, sales, installation, and warehouse operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

1. Design, theatre, art, decorating, or other creative skills
2. Strong art sense, well-developed sense of creative conceptualization
3. Rendering and Illustrator experience (Vectorworks preferred); additional hand sketch abilities are a definite plus!
4. Experience with fabricating props, scenery, and stage sets
5. Experience with Photoshop and Adobe Creative Suite
6. A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible to meet client needs
7. Self-starter, able to work independently and meet tight deadlines
8. Proven communication and presentation skills
9. Working knowledge of Mac OS
10. Social media skills
11. Attention to detail
12. Customer service skills -- good with people and able to interact positively with clients on site.
13. Comfortable juggling multiple projects and able to improvise
14. Ability to rapidly change gears and adapt to client orders
15. Good driving record
