Employment Period:
Immediate hire for design meetings, planning, and budgeting.
Feb 25-March 9: Rehearsals
March 10-17: Load In, Tech Week, Opening + Closing

Compensation: Based on Experience ($2,800-$3,200)

Lyric Opera of Chicago exists to provide a broad, deep and relevant cultural service to the Chicago region and the nation, and to advance the development of the art form of opera.

Lyric Unlimited (LU) is a long-term, evolving initiative that encompasses company activities outside of Lyrics main stage season. It was established to provide a relevant cultural service to communities throughout the Chicagoland area, including communities for whom opera and opera companies have been largely irrelevant; to explore a wide range of ways in which Lyric can collaborate with cultural and community organizations throughout the area; and to advance the development of opera, exploring ways in which opera as an art form can resonate more powerfully, and in a range of different ways, with people of multiple backgrounds, ethnicities, and interests.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Properties and Scenic Art Director + Lyric Unlimited Production Manager with the development of the properties design in coordination with the scenic designer for Lyric Unlimited
Participate in pre-production meetings with Directors and Designers
Research, develop, coordinate, and procure: props, set dressing, and armor
Work with the Properties and Scenic Art Director to coordinate best use of Lyric resources including stock and available construction and scenic art labor
Track and maintain purchases against the assigned properties budget
Assist with interfacing between the director, designers, the crew, and stage management, regarding properties development and implementation
Attend technical rehearsals
Attend room rehearsals as needed
Work with the scenic designer to collaborate on solutions to problems before and during tech

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum 1-3 years of experience in the field
Microsoft Office Suite
Opera production knowledge is a plus but not required
Photoshop is a plus
Experience working in union venues is a plus
Work independently with minimal supervision and meet due dates and deadlines
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Maintain confidentiality.
Organize, prioritize and complete varied tasks quickly and accurately
Establish effective working relationships and interact with a wide range of people
Maintain several projects of equal priority at once and sustain productivity under pressure
Drivers license, and clean driving record



WORK CONDITIONS:
Sit at a computer and/or production desk for long periods of time
See clearly in low-light situations such as are common back stage and in the theatre
Stand for a long durations during production days
Walk on complex stage settings
The employee must be able to perform the functions of the position in a safe manner.
Work weekends and evenings as necessary
