Audio/Theatre Technician

DESCRIPTION:
The Waterville Opera House is hiring an Audio/Theatre Technician to design sound effects and mix sound, load in/out for events, run projections, execute duties as the theatre electrician, and perform equipment/facility maintenance. This is a year round, full time, salaried position reporting to the Technical Director. Work schedule is variable depending upon show schedule. Availability on nights and weekends is a must.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create and maintain digital patch and signal flow for audio systems
Design sound for community theatre productions
o Design and run show effects
o Mix sound for musical productions with casts of up to 30 performers
o Create mic plots and prepare microphones and microphone packs
Hang, patch, and focus light plots for theatre productions
Perform event duties (concerts, venue rentals, other)
o Load/in out
o Mix monitors and/or FOH as needed
o Liaison with tour managers, stage managers, etc
o Gather rental quotes for technical requirements, such as backline, microphones, etc.
Run technical elements of HD Broadcast Series (i.e. Live from The Metropolitan Opera)
Implement and maintain safe practices and procedures
Ensure the ongoing maintenance, and safe operation of, audio and electrics equipment
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
3-5 years of audio experience
Experience in a technical theatre environment
Strong interest in being part of a team creating performing arts events
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
Experience and comfort using ladders and lifts
Ability to read drafting, light plots, and other theatrical specifications
A valid drivers license
Basic computer skills

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and time management skills, the ability to self-motivate, exercise good judgment and discretion, manage shifting and competing priorities, and maintain a positive attitude in stressful environments. Night and weekend hours are required.
