The Drama, Theatre + Dance Department of Queens College CUNY is currently seeking a Substitute Lecturer in Technical Theater. This is a full time (9 mo.) appointment, for one year (August 2018-August 2019). Duties of the appointment include acting as Technical Director for 5 productions in our 3 theater spaces, overseeing maintenance of shop production facilities and performance spaces, teaching classes in beginning and advanced subjects in technical theater to undergraduate students.
Responsibility for building and supervision of scenery for DTD productions, including planning and working drawings, co-ordination of construction, set-up of scenic elements and coordination of scene changes during technical rehearsals. Responsible for the supervision of student crews.
Skills required: Thorough knowledge of scenic construction, rigging and stage mechanics, stage carpentry and metalworking, and the use of standard theatrical materials. Knowledge of theatrical drawing, including scaled plans, and show budgeting. Knowledge of CADD or Vector works. Queens College has a state of the art computer fly system on its main stage: the shop has a CNC router. Basic computer skills in WORD, including Excel and calendar programs.
Salary to $61,700 for the 9 month appointment, depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits.
