Position: Properties Master/Set Dresser

Description

Riverside Center for the Performing Arts in Fredericksburg, Virginia is seeking a bright, motivated, hard-working individual to serve as its Properties Master/Set Dresser for their upcoming production of Disneys Beauty and the Beast. In collaboration with designers, directors, Technical Director, and Production Manager, work as a creative problem solver in the creation or acquisition of all hand prop, furniture, and set dressing needs Riverside Centers upcoming production of Disneys Beauty and the Beast. Ensure timely progress of projects while setting high standards of professionalism and quality.

Direct Supervisors: Producing Artistic Director, Production Manager

Required: The candidate must hold a degree in Technical Theatre from an accredited university or possess equivalent professional experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Procure all properties for all theatrical productions by means of fabrication, purchasing, renting, or borrowing
Maintain a safe working shop environment and inventory of tools and materials in order to fabricate/repair properties in a safe and efficient manner
Works directly with directors and designers to establish priorities and keep expenditures within predetermined time and budget constraints based on approved final designs.
Communicate with designers and directors to ensure the best/safest way their vision can be presented onstage
Keep Production Manager updated on status of properties.
Communicate with other production departments about properties that interact with any other departmental items (ie, lamps for practicals, fake microphones, etc.)
Attend all scheduled production meetings, rehearsals, and meetings as requested.
Collaborates with director, designer and stage management to create and update prop lists.
Schedules and coordinates properties strike, ensuring responsible return of borrowed/loaned props.

Special Skills + Knowledge:
- Computer and internet research skills with specific knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Proficient knowledge of properties construction standards in the theatrical industry. This may include: woodworking, electronics, plastics, casting and molding, and crafts. Welding is not required but a plus.
- Knowledge of history, art history, furnishings, architecture, and theatrical techniques
- Working knowledge of health and safety priorities and practices for the performing arts
- Mature, positive, and enthusiastic attitude towards the goal of providing the highest quality work possible, in a mutually supportive environment.
