Summary Description:
Under direction from the Chair of the School of Fine Arts, plans, organizes and coordinates performing arts college events and operations for the School of Fine Arts; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to the preparation and production of those events; coordinates assigned activities with faculty, staff, students, and other college divisions and departments; and provides a high level of academic assistance to assigned instructors.

Positions in the Senior Lab Technician class are distinguished from the Lab Technician by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees assume greater responsibility for more technical aspects of a learning program, perform at a skill level with a considerable degree of independence, and operate complex apparatus, equipment and machines. In addition, the Senior Lab Technician must possess extensive technical or academic training and experience in the assigned field, monitor assigned budgets, order and inventory laboratory supplies and materials and provide significant academic assistance to assigned instructors. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility and are fully aware of the operating policies and procedures of the work unit.

Knowledge of:
Advanced theories and applications of the assigned subject matter.
Principles and technologies of designing and producing fine and performing arts events.
Wood and metal technologies.
Electrical and fundamental electronic technologies.
Fundamental rigging and hoisting technologies.
Lighting, sound and musical instrument technologies.
Principles and procedures of record keeping and filing.
Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Basic principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Ability to:
Perform complex technical work in an instructional learning environment for a highly technical or complex subject area.
Perform duties at an advanced skill level with a considerable degree of independence.
Provide assistance to students on matters related to performing arts.
Learn and apply district, college, and school policies and procedures relating to School of Fine Arts productions.
Operate and maintain School of Fine Arts equipment including stage machinery, lighting and sound equipment and hand and power tools.
Implement and organize sound, lighting and set design for fine and performing arts events.
Operate, understand the mechanical function of and perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment within assigned area.
Interpret and apply department policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
Participate in budget preparation and administration.
Maintain an adequate inventory of materials for instructional programs.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience Guidelines:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in fine and performing arts.

Three years of increasingly responsible experience relating to fine and performing arts production.

License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California drivers license.
