Bridges Auditorium is a 2,400 seat theater located on the Pomona College campus. We are seeking a Master Electrician to manage all aspects of our lighting system. The theater hosts a wide variety of events including concerts, ballet, tour rehearsals, childrens theater and dance.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE: The Theater Technician III reports to the Senior Technical Director, Bridges Auditorium and works with an integrated team committed to delivering high-quality events to the Colleges internal and external audiences. The Technician serves as an audio, video and/or lighting specialist and works collaboratively with colleagues in the production and execution of events and other programming of various kinds, themes, purposes, sizes, and locations (some of which may take place at other venues on campus), and maintains standards of excellence for all programming, internal and external, that is presented at the College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Senior Technical Director, Bridges Auditorium, the Theater Technician III works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:

1. Technical Support: The Technician provides support for events, including:
Assisting with technical production tasks, including sound, lighting, carpentry, rigging, props and wardrobe.
Utilizing ground plans and blueprints to construct sets and lighting designs
Operating various power and hand tools to assemble scenery
Working with guest production staff to facilitate the clients needs
Assisting with the set-up, operation and strike where performance systems are incorporated elsewhere on campus.
Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
Assisting in the training of subordinate temporary staff

2. Operational Support: The Technician assists the Senior Technical Director in the execution of events including:
Working with other technicians to accomplish daily goals
Utilizing proper safety practices and procedures
Coordinating rental equipment placement and operation
Loading and unloading event related equipment
Operation of scenery and theatrical machinery
Serving as stagehand labor for productions
Assisting in the planning, organization and implementation of equipment maintenance
Operating performance related equipment including lighting, sound, video and staging equipment

3. Specialized Support: The Technician supports specialized operations of events including:
Audio, video and lighting design for College events
Interpretation/implementation and advance of designs prepared by others
Oversees and provides hands-on operation of audio, video and lighting systems including design, and operation of orchestral/musical theater
Serves as the primary operator of audio, lighting and/or video equipment
Inventory/maintenance of all audio, video and lighting equipment, organization of designated facilities, storage areas and loading areas
Supervision of subordinate temporary staff and client staff as assigned
Assist in the acquisition of equipment and supplies
Serve as an event day technical contact
Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work environment
May be responsible for performance crews or projects in the absence of the Senior Technical Director




QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses/Certificates: A valid drivers license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation.
Experience: At least five years of experience in the technical theater field with at least two years of specialized audio, video or lighting system maintenance and show operation experience is required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: This position must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job and must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other knowledge, skills and abilities not listed below.

1. Takes initiative to accomplish projects. Works both independently and as a collaborative member of a team in support of the productions artistic vision.

2. Demonstrated effectiveness and clarity of verbal and written communication. Must handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, tact and a keen eye for detail.

3. Possesses a complete understanding of theater principals, procedures and policies including the methods, materials, equipment and tools used in theater. Able to perform a full range of theatrical duties as assigned. Must demonstrate independent judgement and initiative in preforming these tasks.

4. Able to operate basic theatrical essentials such as the counterweight fly system, follow spots, two-way communications, power tools and life safety systems. Must have exceptional working knowledge of audio, lighting, video, staging and rigging including the safe operation of these systems. Additionally, must possess a strong working knowledge of electrical and data principals.

5. Must have better than average organizational, customer service and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

6. Able to operate computers with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software including After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Premiere, Qlab, Yamaha Digital, BSS Audio Architect, ETC EOS Family, Vectorworks and Lightwrite.

7. Able to safely operate the Colleges vehicles/golf carts for campus-related work.

8. Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

REQUIRED HOURS: Weekend and evening work hours will be required. Must be able to work long hours with a flexible schedule.
