The Merage JCCs youth theatre program (Jstage) is focused on creating a foundation for young artists to train and develop their creative potential, giving them the opportunity to express themselves through the dramatic arts. Jstage professionals work to each childs strength to create a positive atmosphere which bolsters self-esteem.
The Youth Musical Theatre Director(s) train(s) students in theatrical instruction over a 10-13 week period leading to a production. Rehearsals take place on Sundays from 2-5pm and Tuesday afternoons from 4:30-6:30pm.
Responsibilities:
Provide participants with a fun, safe and healthy learning environment.
Conduct auditions and cast the shows.
Provide rehearsal schedule; monthly overview (lesson plans); production notes.
Direct participants during rehearsals in areas of character development, voice and diction, and blocking in a way that ensures their best possible performances while having enjoyable arts learning experiences.
Responsible for the shows choreography.
Re-enforce/practice previously directed scenes, dance and song numbers with participants while new parts of the show are being taught.
Collaborate productively, positively and efficiently with other creative and production staff.
Plan rehearsal activities that are exciting, challenging and process based; organize safe activities such as vocal and physical warm-ups, cast team building skills and other skill building exercises.
Responsible for working with Set Designer from concept to creation
Responsible for Costumes and Props
Responsible for all aspects of tech week and the actual performances.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or courses to meet requirements and several years of dramatic training; BA or MFA in Musical Theater or equivalent preferred.
Ability to work within a budget and plan accordingly.
Past experience teaching youth drama; production experience; extensive experience teaching in comparable environment.
Comprehensive knowledge of musical theater and choreography.
Demonstrates mastery of performing arts content.
Excellent customer service / networking skills.
