The Juilliard School is looking to hire an individual to work with our Costume shop in the role of Design Coordinator. Costumes are built and altered for 20+ Drama, Dance and Opera productions per season. The Costume Design Coordinator must be extremely well organized and efficient in support every show built by the Costume Shop.

Supervises the Apprentice Assistants on their individual assignments. This includes the daily review of individual schedules, show build timelines, information coordination, rehearsal support, swatching and fabric purchasing, fitting schedules, rental procurements and returns, shopping, outside vendor coordination, general workflow integration with the shop, preparation for hand off to Wardrobe crews, dress rehearsal processes and post show restoration obligations. Reports to Assistant Shop Supervisor on progress, concerns etc.
Meets weekly with Shop Supervisor and Design Coordinator.
Supervises the coordination of all swatching, shopping, pulling and rentals through the Apprentice Assistants.
Supervises the Apprentice Assistants in coordinating all fittings. Facilitates fitting requests. Confirms Apprentice preparation for all fittings. Attends all fittings as needed. Supervises proper note-taking in and after each fitting
Monitors alterations, craft and construction requests. Coordinates with Assistant Shop Supervisor daily. Helps coordinate staff members, Apprentice Assistants, per diem staff and work study in the execution of all notes as needed.
Coordinates the creation and maintenance of show bibles, costume racks, pieces lists, plots etc by the Apprentice Assistants. Collaborates with Assistant Shop Supervisor and Wardrobe Supervisor.
Coordinates the documentation by the Apprentice Assistants of all alterations done to rental items, ensuring their restoration and return in a timely manner in cooperation with the Assistant Supervisor and the Wardrobe Supervisor.
Monitors all rehearsal reports and confirms the fulfillment of rehearsal needs through Apprentice Assistants.
Attends rehearsals, dress rehearsals, staff meetings, production meetings and wardrobe meetings as needed.
Assists in the coordination of tech notes for the shop after each dress rehearsal. To include: advising alterations, supervising all pulls and shopping as needed.
Maintains calendar input in collaboration with Shop Supervisor and Assistant Shop Supervisor.
Performs off-season maintenance projects in collaboration with Assistant Shop Supervisor and Wardrobe staff.
Attends Apprentice Assistant review meetings Works with Apprentice Assistants on portfolio development and career advancement. Assists in the selection of Apprentice Assistants
Coordinates incidents reports with Office Manager as needed.

Three years experience in a professional costume shop.
Experience in the construction of costumes for opera, drama, and dance productions.
Strong knowledge of costume history, period and sizing.
Proficient abilities in operating industrial and domestic sewing machines and sergers.
Proficient hand sewing skills.
Demonstrated ability in a wide range of clothing construction, craft techniques and alteration methods.
Experience in the training of staff and interns.
Computer literacy including Excel, Word and Outlook.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
Able to work nights and weekends
Experience working in an educational institution preferred.
