Drury Lane costume shop, seeks Draper to assist with our production of 42nd Street.

Costume shop under new management.

Project dates are Sept 25th to November 2nd.

Under general direction of the Costume Shop Manager, work closely with the Costume Designer to translate the silhouette, proportion and drape of the costume garments from sketch to reality with the vision of the Costume Designer in mind. Interpret designers sketches into patterns, creating and fitting costumes from these patterns and managing assigned team to construct and alter costumes.

Generate work for self and team members, monitoring construction quality and meeting deadlines. Discuss with Floor Manager team progress reports, labor and supply needs. The position is both hands-on and supervisory.

Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Theatre Design/Technology or Fashion Design OR 2-3
years professional experience as a first hand or draper in a commercial shop or equivalent theatre, opera or ballet company.

3. Demonstrated ability to handle a high volume of work and attend to numerous projects concurrently.
4. Proficient knowledge of costume construction and alteration skills, pattern layout and cutting processes.
5. Proficient knowledge of mens and womens tailoring.
6. Proficient knowledge of various types of fabrics and materials, as well as their individual qualities, characteristics and uses.
7. Proficient knowledge of costume history.
8. Strong skill in the use and proficient understanding of many types of domestic and industrial sewing machines, sergers, steam irons, and heat presses.
9. Proven ability to work with a wide range of designers and performers productively, effectively and professionally.
