About the Department
Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) includes two venues, a 500-seat auditorium, and the new 1700-seat state of the art proscenium theater/concert hall. VPAC presents about 50 performances per year of world-class artists of all genres and disciplines. Located in the nation's second largest market, Los Angeles, VPAC operates at the highest level of professional and artistic excellence.

Major Duties
Under direct supervision of the Technical Director or designee, the Stage Tech E2 (Master Electrician/Board Operator) assists the Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) technical staff with event/performances to maintain and improve the integrity, condition and value of the facilities as a world-class performing arts and cultural centers for the campus and larger community. The incumbent acts as one of the resident electrics leads responsible for programing and operating lighting consoles and leading crews, when assigned, at the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall (500 Seats) or Great Hall (1700 seats) and other supporting spaces; performs interpretations of lighting plots and leads and/or assists a crew implementing lighting plots, circuiting, hanging, and focusing lighting fixtures; programs EOS and iON lighting consoles with ease at a high skill level to support activities and productions in the venues; participates in maintaining equipment readiness through equipment maintenance; keeps documentation current through competent use of Vectorworks, LightWright, and other supporting software; works in other production areas as assigned and skills warrant to support the overall Production Services Team; and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Equivalent to four years of full-time experience working for a theater, repertory, production, or stock company required which includes electrics and production related work. Experience with lighting rigs containing 10 or more moving fixtures and 20 or more LED fixtures and lighting design and the creation of lighting plots required. Equivalent to full-time college or university education/vocational school training in the Arts or job-related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience on a year for year basis. Demonstrated experience and/or skills in leading staff on a task or goal in the area of production design preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, + Abilities
Knowledge of theatre etiquette, standards, and protocol. General knowledge of methods and techniques related to theatre facilities; principles and techniques of design and production; and safety requirements and standards related to the core production areas of audio, electrics, carpentry, and stage rigging. Knowledge of networking systems and their interconnections. Knowledge of DMX cable setups, equipment addressing, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of technical theatre and operating theatre technical systems that includes a strong leadership and experience concentration in electrics; proficient in the use of Lightwright and Vectorworks software. Ability and specialized skills to: read and interpret lighting plots and related documentation; identify problems and trouble shoot electrics systems; guide staff in the operation of lighting consoles and architectural lighting controls; make minor equipment repairs; maintain records; troubleshoot intelligent and LED type fixtures; possess good customer service and public relations skills, with the ability to work under pressure of deadlines and with a wide variety of personalities in the execution of events; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and ability to work with minimum supervision and as part of a team under general supervision. Must be outgoing and enjoy working with people. Ability to lift and handle equipment weighing up to 65 lbs. Comfortable working at heights above six feet, including walking on a 76 foot high stage grid spaces in-between.

Pay, Benefits, + Work Schedule

The salary range for this classification is: $1745 - $2888 per month.
The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $1745- $2464 (Part Time Equivalent), dependent upon qualifications and experience.

HOURS: Part-Time; 10-month appointment, paid over 12 months, spanning September 1 - June 30, with the time period of July and August off each year. Candidate will work a minimum 20 hours per week and will be assigned a corresponding hourly appointment for additional work over their salaried time base. Schedule will vary based on facility activity.

TEMP: Temporary-renewable; end date June 30, 2018.
