The Conservatory of Theater Arts at Purchase College seeks a Prop Shop Supervisor. Duties and responsibilities include supervision of Prop Shop activities with additional supervision of Scene Shop and Paint Shop activities as needed; management of Prop and Paint Shop resources including materials, tools, and stock. Through this supervision, the Prop Shop Supervisor ensures that the academic programs of the Conservatory and student training are supported. Moves student production work through the shops in a timely, safe, and efficient manner while maintaining high standards of construction quality. Fosters a creative learning environment in which student skills can expand and improve under the guidance of working professionals.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and experience working in a professional prop shop. Experience working in an academic theatre program is desirable. Experience in managing prop shop operations is also desirable. Qualifications include depth of knowledge of props construction, enthusiasm for working with students in a diverse college environment, high standards for prop construction and shop safety, and high expectations of students.

Specifically, we seek a prop shop supervisor with expertise in woodworking including furniture building and repair; metalwork including soldering, welding, and manipulation; sculpture and carving; moulding and casting; computer graphics including, but not limited to, drafting and photo manipulation, upholstery; hand and machine sewing, budgeting and estimating of both money and labor, the ability to quickly establish a vendor pool and then build on it, and an understanding of the safe storage and use of theatrical weapons including firearms and edge weapons.
