About the Department
Valley Performing Arts Center includes two venues, a 500-seat auditorium, and the new 1700-seat state of the art proscenium theater/concert hall. VPAC presents about 50 performances per year of world-class artists of all genres and disciplines. Located in the nation's second largest market, Los Angeles, VPAC operates at the highest level of professional and artistic excellence.

Major Duties
Under direct supervision of the Technical Director or designee, the Stage Tech A2 (Audio) assists the VPAC technical staff with event/performances on an "on-call" basis. The incumbent works to maintain and improve the integrity, condition and value of the facilities as world-class performing arts and cultural centers for the campus and larger community; is proficient in reading stage plots; leads and/or assists others in set up of all event audio equipment, audio line testing, system ring out, etc.; assists with audio mixing from both front of house and on stage monitor stations; works in other production areas as assigned and skills warrant; holds the lead position on work calls as delegated; assists in training and overseeing of production crews; supports audio and other related technical systems; assists with load in, rehearsal/performance and load out for a wide variety of events, including music, dance, theatre, guest speakers, film screenings; interacts with visiting production staff, licensee clients and university event staff in the execution of events; maintains a safe working environment for staff and clients; assists in the maintenance of stage audio equipment and systems; and performs other duties as assigned.

Equivalent to four years of experience working for a theater, repertory, or stock company including audio and production or related work. Must be experienced in live mixing on analog and digital audio mixing consoles including but not limited to Yamaha and DiGiCo plus other related technical systems. Equivalent to full-time college or university education/vocational school training in the Arts or job-related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills, + Abilities
Knowledge of technical theatre and operating theatre technical systems that includes a strong leadership and experience concentration in audio; use of QLab software; demonstrated competency in mixing live audio on a digital sound board; read and interpret stage plots; identify problems and trouble shoot audio systems; guide staff in the operation of audio consoles; make minor equipment repairs; maintain records. Knowledge of theatre etiquette, standards, and protocol. General knowledge of methods and techniques related to theatre facilities; principles and techniques of design and production; and safety requirements and standards related to the core production areas of audio, electrics, carpentry, and stage rigging. Must have good customer service and public relations skills, with the ability to work under pressure of deadlines and with a wide variety of personalities in the execution of events. Ability to work with minimum supervision and as part of a team under general supervision and trouble-shoot audio problems efficiently and safely. Must be outgoing and enjoy working with people. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Comfortable working at heights above six feet. Ability to lift and handle equipment weighing up to 65 lbs.

Pay, Benefits, + Work Schedule
The salary range for this classification is: $20.13 - $33.33 per hour.
The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $20.13 - $25.00, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

HOURS: Intermittent; On-Call; Saturday-Sunday; Time of day and quantity of hours vary and are scheduled based on facility needs and staff availability; Temporary-renewable, end date to be determined.
