Position Title: Draper/Cutter
Department: Costume Shop

Position Summary
The Draper/Cutter is responsible for the production of patterns based on the costume renderings, sketches, research, and verbal instructions of the Costume Designer. The Draper/Cutter is also responsible for leading a team and overseeing all necessary areas for the fit and completion of all costumes for all specified shows.

Essential Functions
Uses the Sketch provided by the costume designer to drape or pattern the costume
Fabricates patterns, either by draping, flat patternmaking, or pattern software for specific actors
Fits all costumes to the actor
Cuts or supervises the cutting of all fabric for the costume from the pattern created
Determines yardage for fabric and trims for the costume
Corrects patterns or alters costumes as necessary
Supervises a crew by preparing and delegating work to First Hands and Stitchers
Researches the period, style and techniques necessary to complete the costume within the costume designers guidelines
Maintains the integrity of the costume design through his/her interpretation of the sketch
Qualifications
Demonstrated proficiency in flat patterning
Demonstrated proficiency in draping and the 'sculptural' using of fabric
Knowledge of/and experience in a variety of costume construction techniques including tailoring, period construction techniques, and alterations.
Understanding of period shape and how to adapt it to theatrical costumes
Good working knowledge of costume history

Skills / Abilities
Ability to operate shop equipment including industrial and domestic sewing machines, multi needle and leather sewing machines, steam irons, and cutting tools
Proven skills in pattern making, cutting, construction, crafts, millinery, and fittings
Ability to collaborate with the costume team to efficiently complete assigned projects.
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent time management skills
Excellent communication skills
Ability to lift 20 lbs
Computer patterning and grading a plus

Production Dates: April 2nd - June 1st
Salary / Rate: DOE / hour
Housing is provided
Travel Stipend Available

2018 Production shows include Cinderella, Matilda, and Prince of Egypt
