AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre and Performing Arts, as well as two year conservatory programs.

The Assistant Technical Director is responsible for assisting with the daily technical operations of the Production Department, including drafting, lighting, sound, set design, construction, and coordinating necessary maintenance. The Assistant Technical Director will work in a demanding environment and is expected to think creatively and respond rapidly to a constant influx of demands.

In this position, s/he will assist in providing leadership and supervision for all activities pertaining to AMDAs technical production team. The Assistant Technical Director will be responsible for assisting in developing a highly motivated and collaborative technical production team, which includes carpenters, electricians, student workers, and all other technical production staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Assist with operating, maintaining and safeguarding the technical assets/equipment of the theatre.
- Assist with the planning of the necessary technical supports, such as drafting, lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances in advance of production dates.
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Production, the Production Manager, the other Assistant Technical Directors and the Executive Team on the technical specifications, costs and usages of technical equipment required for individual productions and supervise the implementation of approved technical designs.
- Monitor the condition of production equipment, arranges for repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
- In conjunction with the other Assistant Technical Directors, supervise and assist with set and stage construction and management.
- Attend technical week rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting of the show.
- Assist in recruiting, training, and assignment of tasks to student workers and technical production staff members.
- Lead, supervise, motivate and inspire the technical production team.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre, or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of prior experience as an Assistant Technical Director in the field of theatre production.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing a diverse team of technical production staff members.
- Must have skills in drafting/carpentry.
Experience in a non-profit arts management/leadership position.
Knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances; plan, develop, schedule and provide the technical supports required for each event or performance; design and construct sets; design lighting and sound systems appropriate to each performance and oversea stage crews and student workers.
- Experience with Theatre Design + Technology (including CAD programs).
Excellent interpersonal leadership, organization, and communications skills (both written and oral).
- Strong work ethic, stamina and passion for the performing arts and working in an educational environment, as well as the flexibility and experience to deal with unpredictable pressures and a variable work flow or work activity.

Preferred Qualifications Include:

- Masters Degree in Arts Administration, Theatre Management, or related field.
