The Lake Dillon Theatre Company Apprentice Program

The Lake Dillon Theatre Company Apprentice Program provides opportunities for young professionals to fast track their professional careers with on the job training in their field of interest. The program bridges the gap between education and the professional by providing young professionals with real work experience and credits that help build their resume and skills. Apprentices are teamed up with professionals who will serve as mentors and support them during their time at LDTC. Lake Dillon Theatre Apprentices earn a weekly meal stipend of $150. Housing is provided in dorm style housing. Free public transportation is available with local bus shuttles.

Summer 2016 Apprenticeships: Applications accepted beginning January 10, 2017.

Please note that there is flexibility on start and end dates. We understand this is a long contract and that students going back to school might not be able to work the full term. Please dont let that stop you from applying if youre interested. We will consider each applicants availability on an individual basis as we seek to fill each apprentice position with the best candidate.

Apprenticeship Offerings

Acting/Performance
Acting/Performance apprentices will be cast in the summer production of Sister Act. Apprentices will take on ensemble roles as well as understudy principal roles in Sister Act + Ghost the Musical under the supervision of the Shows Director + Choreographer. Apprentices will also perform in the summer Cabaret series, the National Repertory Orchestra 4th of July concert, pre-show performances, and other marketing + development events as assigned. Apprentice will also be asked to work box office shifts as needed. EMC points will be awarded for this apprenticeship.

Company Management / Patron Services Apprentice

The Company Management /Patron Services Apprentice will work under the direction of the Patron Services Coordinator + the Company Manager during the 2017 Summer season. Company Management Duties: Apprentice will be responsible for assisting the Company Manager in day to day tasks including driving the company shuttle, preparing employee housing, airport pick-ups and drop-offs in Denver, being on call for emergencies, receiving + processing all employee comp ticket requests, running departmental errands and general office duties. Patron Services Duties: Apprentice will serve in the box office, assist in Patron development efforts, give theatre tours, and assist with special events as needed. Apprentice should be a people person with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, have excellent computer skills, and have an interest in company management, box office, and patron services. Database and customer service experience a plus. Apprentice will also have the opportunity to work at volunteer and donor events, and may also have opportunities to assist in various marketing and patron services efforts.

Candidate must have a valid drivers license + pass a motor vehicle background check. Duties may include heavy lifting/carrying items up or down stairs. Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs. Candidates able to bring car a plus.

Development
The Development Apprentice will work under the direction of the Director of Development and/or Executive Director during the summer season. Apprentice will serve as a key member of the development team through a variety of donor coordination and event planning efforts as they directly relate to the fields of fundraising and marketing. Duties include: coordination of communication efforts through mailings, emails and phone calls; event coordination of special events pertaining to operational and/or capital fundraising; implementation of fundraising communication initiatives throughout the season; and general support in the areas of development, donor services, and marketing. Prior experience and knowledge of working with detailed spreadsheets, implementing customer service initiatives, and event planning is a plus. Apprentice will also have the opportunity to work alongside team members in all fields of fundraising and development, and may also have opportunities to assist in various marketing and patron services efforts. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must also have a valid drivers license and past a motor vehicle background check. Candidates able to bring car a plus.

Education
Educational Apprentices will serve as camp staff for the Lake Dillon Theatre Companys Summer Youth Workshops. The program entails teaching children from Kindergarten to 9th grade the fundamentals of theatre as well as working towards full productions. Apprentices will work closely with the Director of Education to create lesson plans and programming for all age groups. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain teaching experience in a fast paced summer education program. Experience in musical direction or playing the piano is a plus. Apprentices will also run before and after car program on a rotating schedule and two childcare nights as assigned. Special Note: In accordance to national standards and practices, all potential education apprentices are subject to a federal background check for the safety of the children participating in the workshops. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Electrics
Electrics Apprentice will work with the Master Electrician and designers on a variety of different projects during the summer season. Duties include assisting the Master Electrician with light hang and focus for multiple productions in several different venues, assistance with electrics maintenance and production notes throughout the runs, load-in procedures for special events and productions, running backstage crew positions as assigned by the Production Stage Manager. Apprentice will also run Summer Sunday Cabaret Series. Electrics Apprentice will also assist in lighting design and board operation for the Educational Youth Theatre Workshops. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Marketing
The Marketing Apprentice will work under the direction of the Marketing and Development Coordinator during the summer season. Apprentice will support the Marketing Coordinator to execute promotions, direct mail and e-marketing projects, draft copy for press releases and emails, manage distribution of promotional materials, create and manage social media content and assist with planning for special events. Candidate must have previous knowledge/experience with social media platforms, excellent communication skills both written and verbal, the ability to capture video footage and experience using programs like iMovie. Experience using Adobe design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) a plus. The Marketing Apprentice will have the opportunity to work alongside team members in all fields of marketing, and may also have opportunities to assist in various development and patron services efforts. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must also have a valid drivers license and past a motor vehicle background check. Candidates able to bring car a plus.

Props
Props Apprentice will work with Summer Props Supervisor and designers on a variety of different projects during the summer season. Duties include procurement of specialty props as required by the Designer, prop tracking and preset lists based on rehearsal reports and stage management requirements, running backstage crew position during performances, assisting with changeover and load-in procedures for productions and special events, cleaning and maintaining props, inventory and upkeep of props inventory. Props Apprentice will also assist in designing props + some scenic elements for the Educational Youth Theatre Workshops. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Scenic/Carpentry
Scenic/Carpentry Apprentice will work with Summer Tech Director and designers on a variety of different projects during the summer season. Duties include working in scenic shop, running backstage crew position during performances, assisting with changeover and load-in procedures for productions and special events, building cleaning and maintaining scenic elements and other backstage areas. Scenic Apprentice will also assist in designing some scenic elements for the Educational Youth Theatre Workshops and run backstage crew. Apprentice will also run Summer Sunday Cabaret Series. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Sound
Sound Apprentice will work with the Sound Supervisor and designers on a variety of different projects during the summer season. Duties include assisting the Sound Supervisor with setup for multiple productions in several different venues, assistance with sound maintenance and production notes throughout the runs, load-in procedures for special events and productions, running backstage crew positions as assigned by the Production Stage Manager. Sound Apprentice will also assist in sound design and board operation for the Educational Youth Theatre Workshops. Apprentice will also run Summer Sunday Cabaret Series. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Stage Management
Stage Management Apprentice will work closely with the Production Stage Manager during the summer season. Apprentice will serve as an ASM for two summer shows Sister Act + Ghost the Musical. Apprentice will also serve as Stage Manager for the Summer Cabaret Series. Duties include observing and assisting the stage management team throughout the production process, as well as collaborating with and assisting artists and designers in multiple departments. Other responsibilities include assisting with changeover and load-in procedures for productions and special events. Prior experience and knowledge of Stage Management procedures, protocols, and terminology is encouraged. Apprentice will also run Summer Sunday Cabaret Series. EMC points will be awarded for this apprenticeship. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Wardrobe + Costumes
Wardrobe Apprentice will work with Wardrobe Supervisor, Main stage designers, and Educational Costume Designer on a variety of different projects during the summer season. Duties include assisting the Costume Designer with the design for productions, maintenance of costume pieces and daily laundering needs in rehearsal and performance, running backstage crew position during performances, assisting with changeover and load-in procedures for productions and special events, cleaning and maintaining costumes, costume areas, and other backstage areas. Apprentice will also assist in creation of costumes for the Educational Youth Theatre Workshops. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must also have a valid drivers license and past a motor vehicle background check. Apprentice will also run Summer Sunday Cabaret Series. Candidates able to bring car a plus.
