Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point (www.opera.org) is seeking a Costume Designer and shop manager for its 2018 season. Now preparing for its 68th season, Opera in the Ozarks is a training program for aspiring opera singers in beautiful Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The company runs three mainstage productions in repertory (7-8 performances each) and a smaller, traveling studio artist production for a one-month season, mid-June to mid-July. The company comprises 45 vocal artists supported by an artistic/administrative staff of 25 and a paid orchestra of 25. 2018 productions: Rossinis Il barbiere di Siviglia, Strauss, Jr.s Die Fledermaus and Douglas Moores The Ballad of Baby Doe. The Studio Artist programs production is TBA.
Duties include:
Designing costumes for four mainstage and one studio opera, utilizing an extensive stock as much as possible
Designing wigs and makeup for four mainstage and one studio opera, utilizing an extensive stock as much as possible
Working with the allotted budget within the designated production schedule
Purchasing necessary fabrics, trims, accessories, and shop supplies
Supervising costume shop assistants and artist workers (crew of 10-15 singers, primarily before opening of the productions)
Constructing and altering costumes as needed
Generating show-related paperwork, costume plots, tracking sheets, and budget charts.
Serving as wardrobe supervisor
Supervising show laundry
The successful candidate will be highly organized and personable, be able to manage change and work well in a team. Experience working in operas and/or musical theatre is an advantage.

The Costume Designer will be hired as an independent contractor and will be ineligible for medical/retirement/travel benefits; no taxes will be withheld. Compensation comprises $4500, a private air-conditioned room and meals 6.5 days/week for the period of the contract May 21-July 21, 2018.
