General Summary

Reports to the Theatre Technical Director. Is competent to manage and maintain the theatre stage systems. Assists in the instruction of young theatre professionals. Demonstrates ability to interact and represent The Theatre School + DePaul University with organizations renting the Theatre space. Supervise the installation and changeover of all stage systems per production and performance. Manage and evaluate student theatre stagehand employees. Responsible for budget allocation and spending in concert with the Theatre Technical Director to support venue management. Assist in manging and evaluating/grading Theatre School - Design/Technical students in collaboration with relevant faculty.


Responsibilities + Duties

Maintains inventory manifests; coordinates work-study crew projects, facility upkeep, new equipment procurement, and operational improvements; and procedures implementation in concert with the Theatre Technical Director.

Supervises, mentors, and evaluates student crews, hires student employees and assists in the evaluation process for all design and technical students.

Collaborates with other production staff in the upkeep of audio, lighting, and theatre related equipment.

Manages purchasing of materials and supplies following the university's established guidelines for purchasing and ProCard use.

Acts as liaison with Facility Operations, technology services and other outside contractors and renters.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Education + Experience

BFA or equivalent experience.

4 years professional theatrical experience.

Ability to work highly variable and flexible schedule seven days a week AM and PM.

Theatrical rigging skills are required.

Must have a blend of training in management, technical and design skills.


Managerial Responsibilities

Hires and Manages 5-20 student employees.

Financial Responsibilities

Directly manages venue budgets of $15,000.

Certifications + Licenses

Valid Drivers License and good driving record.

Other Skills + Abilities Reqd

Experience in supervising young theatre professionals and students.

Some experience in management of theatre venue and staff

Broad experience with production and stage management, lighting, sound, scenery construction and rigging.

Knowledge of computer applications including AutoCAD and MS windows.

Lighting control software experience is beneficial.

Effective written and oral communication skills.


Physical Requirements

Frequent standing on feet, lifting of 50 pounds or more, walking up and down stairs.

Ability to work in non-accessible building.
