AST is the states only professional Shakespeare company and is housed on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Each summer, AST offers full productions of a range of Shakespeare's works, as well as other plays and musicals that help fulfill AST's mission to entertain, engage and enrich the community.

The Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is seeking an Asst. Technical Director for its 2019 summer season: The Comedy of Error, presented outdoors on the lawn of McAlister. Macbeth and Guys and Dolls, performed in repertory at Reynolds Performance Hall. A one hour family Shakespeare production of Romeo and Juliet performing at Reynolds as well as touring across the state of Arkansas

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

-Assist the TD in the organizational work required to prepare the shop for crews.
-Assist TD and Master Carpenter in maintaining production quality, schedule and cost control.
-Oversee student crews in building, load-ins, changeovers, and strike.
-Verify levels of supplies and tool maintenance
-Serve as Master Drafter for the preparation of shop drawings.
-Review proposed solutions to problems of construction and organization; in conjunction with the TD.
-Assist the TD in determining the order of construction of units.
-Work with the TD to maintain a safe work environment and compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
-Lead crews in load in, strike, and changeover alongside the TD.
-Act as Technical Director for the touring show under the supervision of the season TD
-Construct scenery and set pieces, in accordance with plans provided by the designer.
-Make management decisions in the absence of the TD
-Your immediate supervisor is the TD, followed by the Production Manager/Faculty TD

-Completion or near completion of a degree in technical theatre is preferred.
-Ability to multi-task and work with deadlines. Must be able to plan projects and work independently
-Experience in a supervisory position and leading crew calls
-Knowledge of scenic construction methods including MIG welding and rigging.
-Proficiency in AutoCAD or Vectorworks is needed.
-Experience in safe usage of a counterweight fly system and soft good handling.
-Ability to work on ladders, heights, and confined spaces.
-Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
-Capable of lifting at least 70 lbs.
